The TP-Link Tapo 2K Indoor Camera: A Surprisingly Excellent Choice
As someone who has delved into the world of home security cameras, purchasing and testing models from Meross, Ubiquiti, Nest, Ring, and others, I've encountered my fair share of unique challenges with each brand. I've even invested over $200 on some Ubiquiti cameras, all in the pursuit of finding the perfect balance of functionality, ease of use, and affordability. However, it wasn't until I came across the TP-Link Tapo 2K Indoor Camera that I felt I had found a device that stood out in the crowded market, especially for a very specific need: ensuring the safety and monitoring of my in-laws who have recently moved into an assisted living community. The aspect of this camera that immediately caught my attention was its affordability combined with its robust feature set, something I had begun to think was impossible to find. Unlike other systems that nickel and dime you for every additional feature, the TP-Link Tapo offers a comprehensive package without the need for a subscription service. This was particularly appealing as it enabled me to keep an eye on my in-laws' well-being without incurring ongoing costs. Installation and setup were astonishingly straightforward. I opted for a 256GB SD card, which was more than adequate for our needs and was incredibly easy to install and configure. This ease of setup is not something I can say for all the cameras I've tested in the past, where sometimes the setup process seemed almost deliberately complicated. The video quality is another point where the Tapo 2K Indoor Camera shines. It delivers crisp, clear images that make it easy to see what's happening, even from a distance. But perhaps the feature that sets it apart the most is the ability to playback footage remotely. This has given me peace of mind, knowing that I can easily check in on my in-laws at any time, from anywhere. Price-wise, the Tapo 2K is unbeatable. Considering the high costs of some competitors' cameras that still require additional outlays for full functionality, the value proposition of the Tapo 2K is clear. It's an affordable, effective solution for anyone looking to secure their home or, in my case, keep a watchful eye on loved ones in a care setting. In conclusion, the TP-Link Tapo 2K Indoor Camera has proven to be a little gem in a market saturated with overpriced and overcomplicated alternatives. Its combination of ease of use, excellent video quality, remote playback capability, and affordability make it a standout option. It's a purchase I've been thoroughly pleased with and would recommend to anyone in a similar situation or anyone looking for a reliable home security camera without unnecessary frills or expenses.

Must purchase
Camera works great inside my home, great view especially at night. Voice activated is clear. Ive had it for almost 3 years and never had a problem. Connected right away. The App is incredible. I recommend this camera especially if you have pets.

Incredible cam at a reasonable price
This small camera has an amazing picture. Small enough to hide in an inconspicuous place, and set-up is a breeze. I bought this because I've used TP Link/Tapo products for years and never had any issues with connection or failure. The subscription to real time alerts is nominal when you consider most security systems with monitoring are quite expensive. If you're not into real time alerts, you can still use the sd card system to record events. Do not hesitate to buy!

Good but NOT USB compatible
Highly satisfied with the 2K resolution and remarkable night vision. Not satisfied at all with the color quality in comparison to any other camera. This camera is very easy to use and set up, good for home security or pet monitoring. Integrates with Alexa very well. Consider before you buy that this camera is not USB compatible, it uses its own power adapter.

Goodbye Wyze, hello Tapo!
Iโll be writing this on all the Tapo cameras Iโve recently purchased. (4x C110, 2x C210, 2x C520WS) These are flawless, amazing, and so far ahead of Wyze itโs not even funny. They are massively affordable, truly need no subscription, have fantastic features in their app, can record locally to an SD card; everything you would want. Coming from Wyze (see more below), I didnโt know that cameras were supposed to act like this. I assumed, at Wyze prices, that I was getting what I paid for. But when I finally had enough constant stress and spent the money to change to Tapoโฆ my life has been changed. Seriously, I probably added years to my life not being so stressed out all the time because my cameras never, ever worked right. These do, and I cannot say it enough timesโฆ if youโre currently using Wyze then get one of these. Use it for a week side-by-side and tell me what you think. Super light, have a few of mine mounted with โhard plastic velcroโ (3M Dual Lock). Setup is fast and easy, and works right away. Donโt have to do it over and over again (Wyze). Clarity is superb - 1440p quality. Night vision is phenomenal. Donโt really care about โcolorโ night vision - but my outdoor ones do have it. And one of the best parts is Tapo is part of TP-Link. What does that mean? TP-Link has been around for a very long time, and they specialize in networking equipment, LoL. So yeah, if you want a reliable camera on your network, who better to trust than a networking company. TLDR: Donโt waste your time on any other brand. Buy these. I promise you wonโt regret it. About Wyze: If youโre like me and never wanted to spend thousands on home monitoring and security, then you may have stumbled upon Wyze cameras. At first, they were amazing - very affordable with no subscription necessary. And they worked. Over time, that changed drastically as they ventured into making everything else on the planet instead of focusing on their roots (cameras). They funded that stuff by changing to a subscription policy. And in their haste had multiple security breaches and problems such as other people viewing cameras that arenโt theirs. This is of course while the software and hardware has become so incredibly bad that theyโre unusable. I mean, they actually do not function 92% of the time. Whether itโs freezing, not connecting, stuttering so bad that it looks like a PowerPoint presentation, app for closing, etc.

Nice Indoor Camera with AI Detection - Excellent for Business and Baby Monitoring!
Iโve been really impressed with these Tapo cameras and ended up buying them for multiple uses in our business as well as for baby monitoring at home. The setup has been smooth, the software is excellent, and I havenโt had any connection issues at all, which is a big plus for something I rely on every day. The 2K image quality is very good overall, and while it can get a little pixelated when zooming in compared to 4K, I honestly didnโt feel the extra cost was necessary for my needs. The AI detection is a standout feature because it helps identify people on the timeline instead of making you sort through every bit of standard motion, which saves a lot of time. I also like the two-way audio for talking to the kids or staff, and the local storage option via microSD card so no subscription is needed. The power cord is pretty long at least 6 feet, which makes placement easy without extension cords. Night vision is also very clear and well lit, and the daytime image quality is just as strong. For the price, I think these offer excellent value and have been a great fit for both business and home use.

Not a bad camera, with a couple glaring omissions
So my intention was to purchase one of these, and become familiar with it and its capabilities, and then purchase at least four or five more if it did what I wanted it to do. Unfortunately, it does not. On the plus side, the image quality in varying light conditions is very good. Setup was easy, and it includes a few features like person detection that competitors like Wyze charge for. And although I haven't set it up yet, offering ONVIF/RSTP compatibility is a huge plus, for me at least. Finally, the current per camera price is very good. The deal killer is the fact that tp-link requires a subscription for rich notifications--as in having a snapshot of detected motion or whatever included in the notification. All of their competitors (that I'm familiar with) include this as a standard feature and I was shocked to find out that it is not included with this camera. They supposedly offer a Basic and Premium subscription tier, with both providing rich notifications, but the Basic level is not available in 90% of the countries they serve. The per camera price for both tiers is ludicrous, in my opinion, for what is offered. I do not need 30 days of storage, and I do not need or want cloud capability, etc. I only need rich notifications. Another huge negative for me is the fact that you cannot delete event recordings off of the microSD card via the app. The card has to be physically removed from the camera and plugged into a laptop or something in order to delete recordings, and there appear to be multiple files associated with each recording so it is not an easy task. Especially if the camera is mounted 10 ft off the floor. Again, this feature is available via every other camera app I've ever used. And finally I can't say that I'm at all impressed with the overall build quality. Compared to the 'bulletproof brick' sold by Wyze at a similar price point, the Tapo cam, especially the base, leaves a lot to be desired. I rely on Home Assistant as my smart home controller, and have multiple cameras set up through that using the ONVIF integration. I will try to do the same with this camera, and see if I can get Home Assistant to handle the notification function. If that works consistently and includes motion snapshots I may go that route. Otherwise, I'll stick with other brands that I've used for years. Update: getting this camera to work with Home Assistant is possible but there are so many hoops to jump through that I'm not interested in going that route. I wound up doing a factory reset, deleting the app, and throwing it in a drawer. I have roughly 50 Kasa smart switches and plugs and they are awesome. And the tp-link router I'm using now is the best I've ever seen. This camera, not so much.

Arrived promptly with USA plugs
Purchased single units previously all had Australian plugs, the price was quoted in AUD for this 4 pack so i made the assumption that Aussie plugs were fitted, Cameras are great but the plug issue is a bit of an inconvenience
