Noragami: Stray God 12 (NORAGAMI STRAY GOD GN)

It's almost like if American Gods was set exclusively in Japan and was more "anime"
You know that mystery character from American Gods that nobody can remember? Well what if you based a story around him and set it in Japan. How does a god that requires belief to survive, do so when nobody can retain their memories of him?I marathon bought and read all the books in this series to date after watching the anime. This is not something that I normally do so this series occupies a special place in that regard. It does that thing that I like of mixing the mundane nature of the normal world with the other-worldliness of the other. Readers of Neil Gaiman's work or fans of the Bakamonogatari series will know that vibe. I say give it a shot. Despite already knowing most of the story from the anime I do not regret buying and reading the story in the "original" format.

It's amazing how much Yato has matured since the beginning of ...
This volume concentrates mostly on Yato, the stray, and their father. The stray is out to get revenge on Yukine by letting him know that the Gods have a secret, by the end of the book we know what that secret is and why they keep it. Plenty of flashbacks to Yato's childhood with the stray and his character develops a lot here now that we know his awful beginnings. Just a few cameos from the other characters. Nothing moves forward with this volume but it's a deep examination which is obviously going to affect the direction of the plot as it continues. It's amazing how much Yato has matured since the beginning of this series!
