My rubber piece cracked and then water ruined my license plate lights. This fixed everything, super SUPER easy to install, only four star screws. **Q: Do I need to use the chrome cover or can I use my OEM paint matched cover and just replace the hatch button?** A: I used the chrome cover on my Mini Cooper S R56 because I have other chrome trim on my car however I had painted cover previously and it appears you can take the new hatch button and use original cover. **Q: Will this fit a 2005 R53?** A: I don’t know.
