I blew the tweeter on one of my older, but still beloved, bookshelf speakers during a rather enthusiastic listening session a few weeks back. Finding an exact replacement tweeter assembly proved difficult, so I decided to try replacing just the diaphragm instead. These replacement voice coils were listed as compatible, and I figured it was worth a shot. The package arrived with two diaphragms, which is nice in case I messed one up or the other speaker fails later. Physically swapping the diaphragm itself wasn't too complex; I carefully desoldered the old leads and removed the damaged coil. The trickiest part was aligning the new voice coil perfectly in the magnet gap before securing it; it required a steady hand and patience. The fit wasn't absolutely perfect, needing a tiny bit of gentle persuasion to sit completely flush, but it did go in without breaking. After soldering the new leads and reassembling the tweeter housing, I reinstalled it in the speaker cabinet. The moment of truth came when I powered the system back on, and thankfully, the repaired speaker sounded crisp and clear again. Comparing it to the untouched speaker, I honestly couldn't discern any significant difference in the high-frequency output. It saved me from having to buy a whole new pair of speakers. I’ve been using them daily for about three weeks now, and the repair is holding up perfectly. It's a cost-effective way to bring old speakers back to life if you're comfortable with delicate work. I'm really pleased with the outcome.
