Q: what does 2w power consumption mean?

I think the 2VA (W) is for the AC version of this timer. At 12VDC my unit consumed around 20-30mA (240-360mW) to turn on the internal relay, which is <<2W. If no power is applied to the power terminals, clock still functions & there is an internal Li battery to maintain time for claimed 3 years, but relays don't operate unless power is applied to the Power terminals. When relays are off, current is <10mA (my minimum power supply meter reading-- probably much less than that). FYI, switch seemed to work if +12V/GND was applied to either way on the two power terminals (Diagram "A" shows neutral on the inner terminals and +V on the outer terminal).

I don't think this goes less than 1 minute intervals. And it has 20 per day. Don't think it'll work for you.

Q: Will this work inline with my 12 volts lights to turn them on and off automatic?

Yes. I used them to turn ON/OFF the 12V pump on my boat's bait tank to help extend the battery life. Worked like a charm. You have to designate specific times for them to go ON and OFF, so for example, they could come ON at 6:30P and OFF at Midnight. I would like to see an option that allows the setting of configurable ON/OFF periods (like ON for 15 minutes and OFF for 30 minutes) rather than a limited number of ON or OFF settings, but cannot complain.

I'm using this device to time the on-off cycle of a 2 amp fan. Fan run time is about ten hours per day. It's working fine.
