Worked great for hiking the Sierras. Kept cooler and protected better than a hat and sunscreen.
Took this product hiking in the Sierras and fastened it to my pack. Kept the sun of the head, neck and shoulders. Didn't have to wear a hat or slather any sunscreen. I could feel the mountain breeze on my bald scalp, which kept me cooler than wearing a hat. Passing hikers baking in the sun commented that they wish they would have thought to bring a sun umbrella. In my opinion this type of device is a MUST have for sunny or wet hiking. Pretty lightweight too.

The umbrella is great, but would recommend a different attachment method
The umbrella works great. It's lightweight and easy to use. I couldn't get the shock cord method to work quite right to attach it to my pack strap, though. I found that a pair of hydration clips are the right size and work perfectly to quickly connect and disconnect the umbrella to your pack for hands-free use.

Level up
I went backpacking for 3 days in non-stop pouring rain. This thing held up like a CHAMP. Not great in wind, but that's to be expected. It kept me so dry! I didn't even wear a rain jacket!! Seriously leveled up with this umbrella. And, the hands-free element was fabulous--attached to my backpack quickly and easily and adjusted well. Will be using in the summer as well for sun protection.

Not the most convenient to set up but it can work
I thought this was a bit awkward to use. It's not as quick to set up for what I was looking for. It's not exactly attractive but I didn't buy it for the looks. More for the convenience but it's not convenient though for me to use

Excellent companion to hiking trips
This is a light and compact umbrella making it a perfect companion for summer hikes. I includes loopes to attach it to the backpack. I prefer taking this to hike specially on hot summer days, as the reflective materials keeps it cool. Highly recommend - much better than getting overheated during summer hikes.

nice and worthless
I was quite excited to receive this at Xmas just before leaving for a three month Europe sojourn. After opening and admiring I closed it and slipped it back into its case. the next day, cleaning up the post Xmas debris, my wife discovered the oddest little object on the floor. I kept studying it for days before tossing it without figuring out where it could have come from. Weeks later upon arriving in light mist in Paris I proudly took out our handy umbrella. It would not stay open, making it worthless. The tiny pin I had found on the floor was a key part, rendering a fine looking umbrella a useless addition to the airports garbage bin.

It smells like fish and the loops to attach it to your backpack when hiking are not good.
Just arrived and upon opening the plastic bag it came it, it absolutely stinks of fish (a fish like oder that many cheap items from Amazon have). Furthermore, unlike other hiking umbrellas, it just has two bungee loops to attach it to your backpack which seem like they would work but they are super flimsy and there is no way they can be stable while hiking (only stable if you are not moving). Considering returning this if the order doesn't go away after 24 hours airing out on my patio.
