It is the book for the course and it's good

Cambridge do publish materials to prepare for IGCSE, but most are only available to their registered schools, so as a home-educator, I'm finding this book extremely useful. so why only 4 stars? Well see when the exam's been taken and the results come through!

Excellenttresource

Not at helpful as I thought for home use - wanted something which was more focused on examples of exam questions, found I had to work at finding relevant sections. This was for rather last minute revision for my son - I think if we'd used it over a whole year it would have been more useful.

I bought this and Jane Arrendono's First Language English workbook to teach my nephew for his IGCSE 0522/02 exam in early May this year. My nephew though born and brought up in London and went to the top most local school in West London with results above 86% had fallen behind extremely badly and was pushed initially in Foundation Tier at the beginning of year-11 and eventually could hardly score Grade-E or less in April 2016 mocks. Because I was helping him with other subjects like Math's and Science over Easter holidays and and couple of weeks before, I did not get time to help in English, and after his mocks in mid April 2016, my daughter's year-10 mocks started and I had hardly sat with him for a week after 27th April and could only go for most relevant/important topics or sections from this book and the said workbook but my nephew picked up so fast from the teaching techniques of Course book especially writing techniques which is fundamental to expression especially for a Linguistic subject and he informed me that he had written 2.5 pages for the dairy writing task for this summer exam. I was surprised that I had only had time to cover 1/4 of the Course book properly and 1/4 or little more of the workbook until his exam on 3rd May 2016 but he could distinguish between all kinds of writing like Newspaper article, News Reports, Persuasive or Argument Style, Stories, Journals and Diary Writing as well as Reading Passages to highlight and extract key information and transform it to any other style as response to Reading Passage Questions. Really impressed with this piece of working and an expert style of teaching. I must say I have not seen a better book of English than this before although in Past I bought a load of books for middle son and my daughter to help them understand and develop fluent writing or fluent English Writing. I believe the superior method of teaching is only when you bring up a weak student and not the one that can only be followed by an able student. I hope that Ms. Marion Cox should continue striving in producing better and better teaching style to suit weaker and varied style responders.

Plenty of better material to prepare your exam with. This book helps you develop some reading and writing skills but does not have any emphasis at all on assisting with the actual format of the exam - which is the most important thing to tackle.

The stories inside the book is little interesting compare to the novels like Thousands splendid sons and Animal Farm. But compare to other borads English text book, this is way better

We got the book as requested, even though there was a delay at customs here in South Africa - but Inefficiency is par for the course here and is to be expected.

Excellent book with loads of lessons on English Language a must have book for all students of 10th for that extra edge

Received in excellent condition for “used” book. Recommend.
