Fantastic for NEX & sony Alpha
love this lens - it makes alpha /nex cameras great and is much better than the sony alternative. I have a sony NEX-6, and with the LAEA2 adapter, It brings great picture quality and vibration reduction to NEX. Really worth it.

Not the OS version. Beware.
Amazon sent the non optical stabilised one, as sigma supplied to them in the same box as the old OS version. Couldn't be bothered to send it back, as I have OS in the body anyway. (would have been nice in both). So beware - THIS IS NOT THE OS VERSION OF THE LENS. Quality of results is top notch though.

Great lens although not stabilised as it is the Sony mount version...

Great replacement lens
If you are looking to replace your kitlens this is a good option. It has a low price and the colors are amazing, cant ask for more than that. The autofocus is very fast in finding its target. The lens is heavy in the sense that yoy feel that its a quality product. The only thing I dont like is when you turn the "zoom" ring it doesnt move smoothly. Also you have to turn it the opposite way of other sigma lenses. This is not a big problem but it can get a little frustrating at times. Its also nice having the low 2.8 throughout all "zooms", which not all lenses have. Other than this if you are looking for a quality lens for a good price this is the lens.

Lacking in Sharpness
As the PhotoZone review of this lens suggests, the lens is an overall good performer for the money, but comes up critically lacking in sharpness at f/2.8. It's very noticeable when taking portraits where, ideally, I'd like to use the wide open aperture for focusing attention on the subject, except that this always leads to an image that's noticeably soft across the entire image (not just the corners, unfortunately). For the money, I don't know if you can find a better lens, but the lack of sharpness at wide open has me seeking a replacement -- even if it costs more.

Worst lens ever
Bought this Sigma and the Sony at the same time. Was hoping the Sigma would do the job on my Sony A77, A55 and A350. What a hideous lens. And I own 10 lenses, mostly Sony but one Tamron. This lens brought me to tears. No clear cut way to attach (no orange dot, a Sony standard) Manual focus ring takes a gorilla to turn. And the auto-focus isn't. Could not get it to auto-focus after the first few pictures; off/on, every combination. It should not require any mods or different way to take pictures. May work with other cameras, but not Sony. Save your money, time and emotions and just get the Sony 16-50 2.8. Attached the Sony and started taking amazing pictures. I have several 2.8 Sony lens and this may become my favorite. If you want to save money, get this lens and accept out of focus pictures. IMHO DO NOT BUY THIS LENS FOR ANY SONY ALPHA DSLR. I returned it after 1 hr of attempted use. Had to give it one star, but would have given a -5 stars. BTW the difference between 16 and 17mm is significant.
