Great animation and brilliant songs. Review: Classical and wonderful musical movie with extras that are worth buying. - I had seen this movie on TV and being fond of the Beatles and their music, decided to buy this DVD but it was shown on desertcart. When I got this, I found out that I got more then what I was expecting. This one is a special edition as not only does it have a few extra things as well as the movie itself but also had some stills of the colourful drawn characters from the movie on actual clear acrylic paper and the colours stand out when placed behind a white background. The movie is just how I had seen it with the colourful animated characters, a tense storyline together with catchy music, some from the Beatles famous album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band that is based around this movie. For any fans of the Beatles, I would highly recommend buying this DVD as it contains some extra items that are well worth keeping together with some classical 60s memorabilia that helped made the Beatles very popular worldwide.

a superb quality Blu-ray of a classic film
This is the "Yellow Submarine" on Blu-ray - a full-length animated film, from 1968, featuring a very psychedelic Beatles on a mission to save Pepperland from the Blue Meanies ... It's a cartoon classic that been fully restored and digitally re-mastered, with 4K picture quality and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Comparing this new version to the old DVD release - The Beatles: Yellow Submarine [DVD] [1968 ] (which I bought in 2002) - the improvements are amazing. The clarity and definition of the images is superb, and the colours are vivid and far brighter. While there's not much more included in terms of special features, the item does include some artwork and stickers. The story involves a musical paradise, full of peace and love, being attacked and conquered by the Blue Meanie invasion force - intent on ridding this place, Pepperland, of joy and colour. Yet one man, Captain Fred, manages to escape in his yellow submarine ... and he goes in search of the Beatles - who, through their singing, possess the means to stopping the meanies. Fortunately, the Beatles agree to take part in this quest - and the adventure begins. On their way to Pepperland, we witness the Fab Four visit a myriad of strange and wondrous places (as well as meeting the Nowhere Man). And, finally, as the Beatles sing so the evil powers of the Blue Meanies fade away. This is a very surreal animated film, made in 1968 - immediately following on from the 'Sgt. Pepper' and 'Magical Mystery Tour' phase of the Beatles career during the Summer of Love. It's fun and entertaining, not least because of the fantastic music. Four (then) new songs were included in the movie: 'All Together Now', 'Hey Bulldog', 'Only A Northern Song' and 'It's All Too Much'. Several other Beatles songs also feature, including 'Eleanor Rigby', 'When I'm Sixty-Four', 'Nowhere Man', 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', 'All You Need Is Love', and the title track 'Yellow Submarine'. The album is available: Yellow Submarine Songtrack . It's a shame that Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr didn't provide the voice work in the film, although the voice actors do a great job. And, fortunately, the Beatles make a (brief) appearance at the end. The animation itself is brilliant, albeit often creatively weird. If you're a Beatles fan then I highly recommend this movie. It's fun for children and adults alike, and now stands as a timeless classic.

we all live in a yellow sumbarine
the fab four sing some of their songs and and encounter many obstacles on their quest to free pepperland from the blue meanies. the voices of the beatles and other characters are performed by actors including dick emery, lance percival and eddie yeats out of coronation street, the actor geoff hughes. the beatles themselves appear at the end of the animation being their usual witty and comical selves. we all live in a yellow sumbarine as i used to sing when i was a toddler. i love this fast moving film.

Great package of a classic film
I remember this film so clearly from my childhood but haven't seen it for years. Very happy that I bought this blu-ray - nice clear, crisp picture and sound, housed in a well designed slip-cover with various, interesting, extras, including a booklet, stickers etc. Recommended. When we watched it, as children, 64 seemed so far away and yet, here we are already!

Excellent and Wonderful - What were you expecting?
One of my all time favourite films. Seems to be a really good and clean transfer to Blu-ray, with good restored original sound - with no THX problems. Massively surreal, beautiful story & great animation - and made by one of the most talented bands of all time. And if you can feel it, Yellow Submarine has real spiritual depth. If you don't have the album already the inspiration for The Yellow Submarine is the Album 'Sargent Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band' which every person who likes this needs to listen to. The Yellow Submarine album is basically the songs from the film and has a few standouts not on Sargent Pepper - eg 'Yellow Submarine', 'Nowhere Man', and 'Bulldog'. (there are two versions with different track lists - the SongTrack version has Nowhere Man and other extra Beatles tracks, while the original version maybe has a better order and the orchestral pieces)

A Timeless Classic!
If you collect anything related to the Beatles, this DVD is a Must-Have! It’s a classic film that has fantastic art and music that is very entertaining, regardless of the weak storytelling. The cultural references of this era are everywhere to be seen in all their glory! The actual Beatles voices were not used in this movie but you start to forget about that and just enjoy the visual magic and the great music that comes with the film.
