Great value and easy to use
I have a in-ground freeform pool with an aggregate surface and no screen/ cage. I bought this pool vac with the intention using it to supplement my regular vacuum with a hose that plugs into the suction port, which is somewhat of a pain to use (I don't like swimming with the vacuum and hose in the pool so each vacuuming session involves putting in, then taking out the vacuum and hose). This sucker just gets dropped in the water and the next day, I pull it out when I go in the pool (or can use the included hook on a pole). You can leave it in the pool as long as you want though.I am amazed at how much this vacuum picks up! It does great on leaves and grass and sand (and even surprisingly large bamboo leaves); it generally gets over 98% of the debris in the pool with each session. It doesn't climb walls, but I don't need that. I find that I rarely use my much more expensive classic pool vacuum because this does such a good job. If the pool isn't really dirty then I don't even need to empty it every session. After each session, I charge it (approximately 3 hours) and then it is ready for next time. I charge it in a covered area by the pool and leave it outside when not in use. If I see the pool looks at all dirty (without a cage, debris blows in regularly) it takes just a few seconds to pick up the unit and drop it in the deep end.It scoots along fairly quickly and is propelled by water flowing out of one of two discharge ports facing opposite directions. When it hits an obstruction such as a wall, it starts discharging through the opposite port and moves in the opposite direction. Thus, no moving parts apart from the impeller that provides suction and the discharge stream. It hangs slightly on my elevated drain cover but never gets stuck. The 4 non-powered wheels are plastic but show no significant wear so far. Cleaning the device takes no longer than cleaning the filter basket on my pool pump.As others have noted, it moves around randomly and doesn't hold in very fine debris like dead algae. But it gets almost all of the debris in my pool and is so very easy to use. More expensive units may do a bit more thorough job, but this is truly a great value.Highly recommended!

Disappointing / Update: now sitting on shelf
Overall unimpressed. We have a rectangular pool with barstool and this unit finds itself trapped between the stools or in the corners, bouncing back and forth, since the jets are pushing opposite each other. I now spend the entire 90 minutes that it runs monitoring it as it gets “stuck” about 80% of the time.It is unable to maneuver its way out and runs out of battery. A remote control would be extremely helpful, since the pole and hook is required to get the unit “unstuck”.This would be great for round pools as it does clean very well and picks up fine particles. The lid is a little tricky to remove (you have to gently work each tab off individually, working side to side) and it is easy to clean once the top is removed.Pros: Cleans wellEasy to clean once lid is removedEasy to retrieve once parkedCons: Gets stuck in any non circular areaUnable to maneuver out when stuckWill remain stuck until battery diesDifficult to retrieve with pole/hook when bouncing back and forth when stuckRecommendations to manufacturers:1) Remote control2) Jets reconfigured so not just pushing opposing sidesUPDATE 3/6/2024:So months later, I have reduced my rating to zero stars. This product actually pollutes your pool. It picks up and retains solid debris; fine rocks, chlorine granules, etc. Anything else; leaves, algae, bird dropping, it shreds and breaks up and redistributes it back into the pool. I lent this to my neighbor for algae removal. It seemed to remove it and hours later the algae was redistributed all over his pool; it was worse than before he used the unit.I watched it suck up a large clump of bird stool, and found nothing when I cleaned the unit. Same for the leaves; most of the leaves were in the unit, but a good amount were being shredded and redistributed. The water was cloudier and much dirtier after each use.If it’s thought out logically, it makes sense. Without an external waste line to remove debris, it can only go back into the pool. The same strong suction that picks up the debris shoots it out of the unit as well. This entire design system is flawed. I won’t be purchasing any more pool cleaning devices for the pool floor that don’t have a dedicated waste removal line. That being said, the Betta is an excellent solar skimmer for the pool surfacethat I cannot say enough positive about.Unfortunately, this unit is a complete waste of money and has been retired to the shelf.I can only recommend it for cleaning up rocks.

Perfect for my pool
My above ground pool is located under several oak trees which means I get pollen pods (tassels), leaves, and squirrel droppings, and acorn shells from the squirrels in the pool, depending on the season. This little vacuum is getting it all up, and my pool looks freshly installed when it's done. I have several wrinkles in the pool liner, and only one is large enough to stop the robot, but if I'm out there when it happens, I poke it with my foot or the hook, and off it goes again. I used to spend about 20 minutes with the skimmer and vacuum hose from the pump to clean the pool each day. Now I set it on this little robot on the water and walk away. The only problem I found is that the robot must go directly from charger into the pool. When I unplugged it and left it overnight, it only ran for 20 min. And for what the robot does, this is a good trade-off. Go ahead. Buy it. I'm delighted with mine
