Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide Volume 47 (OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PG SC)

Still the only comics price list worthwhile.
Still the best reference point for any comic collector. Whilst the prices might be slightly off, the ability to compare individual books is really useful.

The Times they are a Changing
Sadly this once great book becomes less relevant with each passing year now. It used to be essential reading until maybe the end of the 20th Century but now just seems to be an object of general reference & interest rather than a vital aid to this wonderful hobby. In valuation terms it really doesn't cater for many aspects of the market anymore. If you are buying key issues then you can't really buy with confidence based on these values. The movie/hot books are too volatile for a once a year publication. CGC & third party graded comic prices largely bear no relation to the values here. The bread & butter run of the mill Marvel & DC Silver/Bronze age books (Hulk, Iron Man, Flash, Green Lantern etc) in their typical selling grades between Good & Very Fine usually have to be discounted by OPG to sell steadily, but by how much ?? 40% off ?? & why ??Virtually all post 1980 books in here are over priced, they typically have a minimum of $3 but you can't sell 90% of them for £2 each (more like 50p for standard, decent material).Don't even get me started on Pre Superhero Marvels/Atlas books. These gems from 1958-63 ish cannot be bought at guide values, they have been undervalued by about half for over 10 years now. Again why ?? Just lazy or complacent or ignorant of the facts. Some interesting articles & market reports but mediums such as YouTube & eBay are just far more up to date & slicker.I used to refer to this book on a daily basis (I did some mail order as well at one time) now it's maybe once or twice a week & I hardly ever trust the result of a value check anymore from here.

best of its kind
bought for my youngest son, I get him one every few years and he, as a collector of comics, is always pleased with it

Unless you live in America this will not be helpful
Disappointed all guides are in dollars. Most comics are American and found it difficult to find any reference to British comics. All adverts which there are many are all shops in America. This was not at all helpful to my British collection.
