Not really, no. But they'drew not exactly soup mugs either. They are much smaller than they appear in the photo. More like coffee cups with a tray.

Do the plates have a secure rim on plate for the cup to stop sliding?

The cup hasn’t slid around for me. It does… like a saucer got a rim where the cup stands. I love them. I bought one set and then sent for a second set. It looks great if you have company and give them a cup or even a mug of coffee with a bit of cake.

I waited so long for these to come back in stock,I’m really pleased with them, many years ago I bought something similar for my mother in plastic (plastic was new then)for tea in the garden,I looked for many years to try to find some but then came across these which seemed to go out of stock as quickly as they came in but my persistence paid off as I finally managed to order them,it says they’re soup & plate but more suited to tea/coffee with cake plate
