Superb early album from Elton
This is a stunning album which I bought when it was first released. I am exploring early Elton John, having bought the imported version of Rocket Man, a great collection and so thought I would go back to the original albums. In my recent phase of exploring old and loved gems which I had let slip I realised that I had overlooked EJ, whose early work is unbeatable and for me outshines a lot of his later work.Elton John, his second album is one of the great records - with early classics like Your Song, Take me to the Pilot, Border Song, The King Must Die. Very supportive orchestral arrangements from Paul Buckmaster. Full acknowledgement of a group effort is shown by the photo, which includes Paul, Gus Dudgeon, producer, and Bernie Taupin.Elton for me slightly overdoes the Transatlantic accent with his vocals on some tracks but this is one of his early 5/6 albums that, like Rod Stewart's early records occupy an important place in many hearts. Both artists went on to overwhelming success - but, in the opinion of many, did not beat albums like this

Splendid 2nd album
Elton John's second LP, released in 1970, sees the Elton John/ Bernie Taupin songwriting team maturing nicely after their solid debut 'Empty Sky' (1969). The general feel here is reflective and acoustic; the opener 'Your Song' is gorgeous and, in my view, should never be covered by any artist [black mark, Ms Ellie Goulding!]. Reggie certainly knows how to rock things up on the likes of 'Take Me To The Pilot' and 'Border Song' demonstrates the lovely gospel feel of early Elton albums. The closing track 'The King Must Die' is a superior ballad which builds to a majestic climax. Overall, this is a solid performance and should form an important part of your 'classic' Elton John collection.

Elton at his best .
The first time I heard this a pal had returned from Glastonbury with this disc which he found in the mud ! No sleeve just the disc . As you can imagine it was in pretty shonky condition but I just loved it . Still do obviously as I've bought it again . I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of Elton and I know there are other albums of his I perhaps really ought to give a try ( so much music...so little time ) .But this is before fame and all that and is a great collection of songs performed brilliantly in my opinion .

early elton/bernie magic
bought the vinyl lp many years ago and played it alot, always thought this was some of his best stuff so bought the cd. it was as good as i remember and brought back memories of the 70s and the great singer song writers of that time.everybody remembers "your song"which was the big hit but the rest of the songs although not performed now are well worth a listen as much as for bernie's lyrics as the music

brilliant
A bit dubious at first But it's brilliant Bernie and elton what a partnership These songs are ageless through the years I've heard these songs grow for the better it proves you There brilliance is second to none it's just a shame that the true fans of music Are abroad, elton has given so much to up and coming singers. His music is far more brilliant and lasting than the beetles he's 70 and still in top form

Toni ribaditi anche nella successiva "I need you to turn to". Questa versione cd offre poi 3 bonus tracks,"Bad side of the moon" "Grey seal" e "Rock and roll Madonna" tutti singoli usciti in quel magistrale e irripetibile 1970.
