It will allow a person to get a valid and useful true experience of these energies himself
I've been a (crummy) student of Tai Chi for many years, but my practice is empty. It is nothing but "Chinese ballet" because I don't connect to the special energies that are the core of the art. This book is written in a very practical way and with a very generous spirit. It will allow a person to get a valid and useful true experience of these energies himself, directly, in a measurable time---not 30 years or 40 years. It gives you a way to explore this area experientially, and that is the only way that matters. Reading about it is useless. Only doing is useful. The "energies" involved are not extreme spiritual energies associated with some distant religion, although they may have connections I don't know. These are aspects of the physical that are quite related to the mind. They are not distant from us but an actual part of us that lies too often unexplored. What will they do? What is the use? Maybe it is like visiting a large bustling new neighborhood of a great city, maybe something like visiting central London. It's new and exciting, and what different people do in that complex and interesting environment will be different. Meredith has several useful books, but this one is particularly good because it gives those of us who are truly in the cheap seats a way we can experience this, too. Really, what more could anybody want? It's a treasure. If stranded on a distant island, I'd want a Bible, a copy of Penrose's Road to Reality, and this book. The Bible is best, but I understand it poorly.

Execellent exposition of xingyi internal energetics and how to achieve them
Scott does a very good job of explaining how to develop the internal energetic results inheremt in classical xingyi chuan training.Much training and many teachers of internal martial arts lack the "internal " compoment of the systems.Scott has gotten down to a lot of the core energetics in this book.Martial arts applications and training are not included in this book.He is also entertaining and fun to read.I have heard that the old xingyi chuan masters practiced in a soft and supple fashion. Scotts book is following along in this tradition.I have been practicing some of the material in this book for a few years and am getting the results elucidated therein.I don't feel that I am becoming a huge power puncher via this practice,However my hands ,arms and body feel healthier.Various aches and pains in my joints tend to arise after practice. These subside after a while. Seems like some kind of energetic clearing of blockages and restrictions.I am also noticing more harmonization between different parts of my body while practicing 5 element fists.I.E. elbows to knees and hands to feet etc. Any system where one is running pranic energy through their body and absorbing it can and will create psychological and emotional changes.So..don't be surprised if that occurs.

Refreshing and tangible way to approach this internal art
good and clear explanations to help practitioners of this great martial art learn to experience those "internal" energies that are often talked about when internal martial art styles are discussed. Scott gives tangible ways for one to "try them out for oneself", as he puts it in the book. Stop talking about it, stop discussing it - start feeling it for yourself, is what he says; and he gives you ways to do so, if you take on board what he's writing about. A very enjoyable book; one that I'm sure might offend some in the xing yi fraternity, because of his personality and writing style. But he delivers what he says and you will make your own decisions.

XingYi Quan Qi Energy.
I am a xing yi quan practitioner. Before I discovered this book and its companion DVD, Xing Yi Quan (also sold by Amazon.com), I did not realize that I had been practicing my five basic xing yi fists with way too much tension which in turn hinders the cultivation of qi energy and inhibit its flow. The author shows you how to develop qi energy using the five basic xing yi forms, three xing yi animal forms, and other exercises. Because xing yi is an aggressive style it is very easy to forget that it is one of three styles of the internal (nei jia) martial arts--- bagua, tai qi, and xing yi. To maximize your learning experience, I highly recommend purchasing the author's companion DVD, Xing Yi Quan along with this book. I believe seeing the author demonstrate what he is saying and writing about in his book makes a major difference in your learning experience. There are no fighting applications, and only 3 out of the 12 xing yi animal forms are covered. I would further add that this is not a beginner's guide to Xing yi quan either. But if you have some xing yi quan experience under your belt, and If you are looking to learn how to cultivate and amplify qi energy through Xing Yi practice, then this book and DVD companion set are for you.

The Secrets of Xing Yi Energy Training ...
And now for something completely different: A mindblowingly radical takeon Xing Yi.Despite its surface simplicity, and minimal number of movements/forms, Xing Yi can be a very complicated and daunting discipline to learn.Internal Martial Arts Master and Taiji/Xing Yi energy expert Scott Meredith has released a Book/DVD super combo focusing on the INTERNAL aspects ofXing Yi.This set provides a comprehensive foundation in energetic Xing Yi through the Five Element Fists, 3 select Animal forms, quiet standing and Santishi stance training. The idea of doing quiet standing meditations (Zhang Zhuan) after each fist set is a game changer in and of itself.Sifu Meredith`s philosophy is that Xing Yi should be practiced Fast and Soft with zero tension. This makes it a great learning tool for beginners as well as for intermediate and advanced students as well. This is really one of the most accessible tools for learning Xing Yi.I really enjoy Sifu Meredith`s writing and teaching style. His use of visual metaphor like the cestus makes complex concepts simple to grasp in seconds.I also like the way he disarms critics by meeting them head on.Improve your Xing Yi immensely with this material!-A.R.

Excellent guide
I'm a huge fan of Scott's teaching methods. No other teacher gives such clear step by step instructions on what to do, look for and expect. There are many gems in this book and his others that have really made a huge difference in my daily practice. I have most of his books and I just hope he keeps coming out with more awesome material in the future.

Simple but powerful
I imagine Mr. Meredith was at one time a fox or coyote, an animal which is not in the XinYi pantheon but should be. The impression that comes across in his book is first trickster and then pragmatic. I got the book for under $6 which is a bargain for a martial arts manual of this caliber. Supplemented with his blog and Youtube videos the book is a wealth of knowledge from a lifetime's worth of research and work. I am glad to have discovered his material and look forward to replicating the same results that he did in his training. It will be one of my primary go to's as a supplement to my own on the fly workouts. Impressive!

My Favourite Internal Martial Arts Book of all Time
Hello there! This is my latest purchase of a book by Scott, & it is probably my favourite which means this is my favourite Martial Arts book of all time, & I have read hundreds!I have always been interested in Hsing I (Xingyi), as it most resembled the kind of Martial Arts I was training in originally like Shotokan, Chinese Kickboxing & Lau Gar, yet it had the internal aspect. This really intrigued me & I started learning the 5 elements. However after several years I still had no internal energy/power. I have since dabbled in many other internal styles, like Bagua, Liu he ba fa chuan, I chuan, Tai chi etc. Also Qigong. Still no real energy until I started reading & applying Scott's books. Now I have a very real energy mainly in my forearms & palms & my strikes are already much more relaxed & harder. This is only early days for myself, yet already I have saw a vast improvement compared to the last 20 years. I am looking forward to where this will take me.Do yourself a favour if you are truly interested in learning the Real Internal Energy, get this book & Scott's other amazing books, then train diligently... you will be surprised..CheersKevin D
