debut release from the star spangles
Whilst getting a bit of a slagging off from some reviewers it's a little unfair to simply dismiss the band as simply 'jumping on the band wagon'. Catchy tunes mixed with an explosive sound (hence the name) make for an enjoyable listen if a little too forgettable.Tracks like 'stay away from me' and the opening 'i live for speed' deliver. Yet the album fails to be a truly great album. Far too many of the songs are hard to tell apart with some songs ruined by very bad vocal parts. This album will appeal to some yet i could never recommend whole heartly. There's nothing here that has been heard over the last year either alot better or alot more original.

Class Album, Buy It.
I bought the Stay Away From me single and for some reason it took me almost 3 years to get round to buying the album. I'm kicking myself because I feel like i've missed out all this time. This is a great album every tune is massively catchy and tracks like "i live for speed" & "stay away from me" should have brought the band more success. I suggest you buy it, i got it for 89p but would have happilly parted with 890p. Great Album.

PowerPop from 1978 Recorded in 2003 Doing Johnny Thunders Better Than Johnny Thunders
15 years later, this entire album is a highly underrated gem. After listening the first track I was hooked -- in fact I was numb and wondered if it really was as good as it seemed the first time. Had to listen again, and then again a couple of times before moving to Track 2.Second track was as good as the first, but different (and in truth Track #1 is in a class by itself). Have you heard the new Johnny Thunders album? No? Neither have I, nor will either of us any time soon as he has been dead for decades. Yeah, it does sound like Vinnie Barbarino doing the Replacements covering the New York Dolls and Johnny Thunders. But it is even better than that, with The Star Spangles unique adolescent fun style and great sound. This by far the best album I've bought all year. I wish it hadn't taken me 15 years to discover The Star Spangles but I am glad I did. Given the unlikelihood of being able to shoplift this album from a record store, you should go ahead and buy the CD.

Don't listen to the snobs...
This is a good, solid rock n'roll record.Came out around the arrival of the Strokes,so of course they were lumped in - but theyowe more to the Replacements than the VelvetUnderground. "I Don't Wanna Be Crazy Anymore",a terrific ode to Cheap Trick, is one of myfavorite songs of the last five years...- cRAIG

Oh Say Can You See...
As punk marches into the 21st century, there are countless "the" bands out there currently trying to resurrect the rock, most failing miserably with albums which are - let's face it - little more than a total racket (Strokes or Yeah Yeah Yeahs anyone?). Personally, I'd rather hear something that's raucous, loose, and bordering on Neanderthal than a group of posing, self-important urban drug casualties who try to save the world while worrying about the global implications of singing rock and roll songs. "Bazooka!!!" never tries to be anything but what it is - a beer-swilling, rock 'n' roll housewrecker of a disc crammed full of endearing car port rock (I refuse to use the term "garage") infused with an enjoy-it-now-and-think-about-it-later spirit. These guys realize their scrappy, ragtag campfire songs aren't rocket science - no apologies offered, none needed - - preferring to bring the noise via buzzing backwashes of wattage like "I Live For Speed" and "Which Of The Two Of Us." Tommy Volume's play-in-a-day riffs snarl behind Ian Wilson's more than slightly off-key vocals while the rhythm section of bassist Nick Price and drummer Joey Valentine play with enough squalid integrity to turn your hair white overnight. Influences are too many to list here (but think pre-marketing age) and pointless besides. Production, in part provided by Daniel Rey, is coated with thick wads of goo without sacrificing a coat of gritty grime and the whole album is packed to bursting with enough hooks to reel in a school of pirahna. If you harbor an adversity to axe-laced ear candy and come to the party looking for pithy, brilliant truths, you may do well to look elsewhere. The Star Spangles traffic in sloppy blasts of polydecibel (car)toons which fuse caffeinated punk to glam swirl, some of which even drool a little. I say that's a beautiful thing. Cue laugh track...

Oh Say Can You See . . .
The Star Spangles deliver timeless inspired rock and roll with gusto and sincerity, and if you are a fan of Iggy, The Dead Boys, The NY Dolls, early Replacements and Hanoi Rocks, they should be right up your alley ... Personally, I love the simple arrangements and great songwriting, and while I hesitate to throw comparisons around, The Star Spangles take me back to the nights I spent at Coney Island High in NYC ( a great, now closed rock/punk/glam club for all those outside the area ) soaking up the sounds of early glam, Buzzcocks and Sid ... Comparisons to Green Day are completely misguided ( ... to put it kindly ) : The Star Spangles are coming from a totally different place, and while there is room for everyone, The Stars Spangles come across more like a classic late 70's/early 80's nasty rock and roll band: Keith Richards would be proud ...

Punk + Glam = The Star Spangles
This album is the first album by punk/glam rockers, The Star Spangles. This band has the best of both worlds. They got the power chord crunch and simplistic song writing from The Ramones, The Clash, and The Sex Pistols. They got the swagger of the Rolling Stones and the guitar solos of the late 80s hair metal. Quite a combonation! Their music should be on all radio stations across the country. The songs "Which One Of The Two Of Us Is Gonna Burn This House Down" and "L.A." are the best songs on this disc. If you like the Ramones or Pretty Boy Floyd, take this trip down memory lane.
