Shock Doctor Gel Max Mouth Guard

Perfect for Mountain Biking
Been wearing this for mountain biking for the last month or so. Thankfully haven't seen if it works or not yet. Feels comfortable, easy to put in and hugs my teeth so it doesn't come out with my mouth open. Wouldn't think about wearing an open face helmet on faster sections without it now, even though you get some funny looks as you pop it into your mouth before dropping into a section.Easy to mould into your mouth:Boil your pan of water (and make yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea) - take off the boil for 30 seconds - drop mouth guard in for 90 seconds (at the end hold some hot tea or coffee in your mouth to prime your teeth) - remove mouth guard with slotted spoon - quickly run under the cold tap for a second or two - (swallow tea or coffee) put your mouth guard into your mouth and push in-line with your back teeth then push up on the front teeth - bite down hard and suck all the air out (like you are sucking a sour sweet) - using your fingers on the outside of your mouth push the guard gently against your teeth all the way around while still biting for 3 seconds - stop pressing with your fingers but still bite and wait like this for a few seconds (this lets your teeth relax, you don't want it mould with your teeth pushed back) - carefully pull the guard off your teeth straight down and straight into ice cold water - wait 2 minutes - try the fit, it should be perfect doing this way, it will hold your teeth without dropping out.

Don’t be put off by the size in packaging!
I ordered an adult size mouth guard and when it arrived I immediately thought it was way too small. But I tried it anyway...went through all the steps of boiling water, iced water etc....and it fits fine. Don’t be put off when you see it in the package as it shapes and molds to fit just fine. Also, don’t expect it to go all the way to the back to cover ALL your teeth as it isn’t designed to do that either.

Aviod- there are better for similar price
I bought this as a spare from my kit bag, should my custom fit guard go missing, these are used for Rugby. Note I’m not writing this review as a comparison, it wouldn’t be fair to compare a ~£10 self-fit to a £50+ custom.Lo and behold my main mouth guard went missing so without the time to order a new one, out pops the spare. I followed the instructions to the letter. Unfortunately as soon as it cooled it wouldn’t stay in place I spent most of the game concentrating on keeping it in my mouth, it also seems rather bulky so when I did manage to keep it in place it made it difficult to breath, neither of these prospects are much fun at the bottom of a ruck!!For a similar price you can get far superior self-fit guards (such as the Opro Gold)

This is a great gumguard. However I bought a junior one for my 9yr old daughter (She had one previously) bit chewed it, so I thought a straight replacement of a junior one would be simple. However the one we received was exceptionally small. Even smaller than the junior one we had bought instore. Perhaps it would be better to include measurements of the junior ones sold online, to better decide on their size (either measurements or a 'actual size photograph). I would say this would have been to small.foe my daughter even when she was 5.

The gum shield although seems small when opening moulds easily around my mouth
The gum shield although seems small when opening moulds easily around my mouth. I don't intend to get hit but I'm sure if someone is lucky enough to get a punch landed anywhere near my mouth it would offer enough protection, and if not it comes with a $10,000 dollar dental insurance. Not quite sure how unlucky you'd have to be to be offered the full amount - but I'm pretty sure I wont need this, and even if I did, how likely the insurance company would be to pay out if I told them I was boxing with the guard???Massively disappointed with the case that broke almost 2 seconds after opening the package.

Comfortable fit
Editing the review I posted last year when I bought the same (or so I thought) gumshield. Youth size is now apparently Under 10, and although there are 4 apparent sizes offered (child, youth, senior, adult), in reality there are only 2 sizes - Youth (for under 10) and adult (11 +).This is a nonsense and I now have a gumshield bought for a 12 year old that is the same size as the one she had when she was 6 - yet the one bought a year ago, also labelled youth, was the correct size.Last year’s review said this (if you get the correct size, it is probably still true):Excellent fit. Well worth the extra price over the cheapest makes. The last one lasted well over a year.

a little chunky but a second mould helped
The first time I moulded it i thought - 'this is small (didn't get good coverage of molars) and very CHUNKY at the front.'I moulded it again and really pushed my front teeth into the gel at the front. The second mould was a game changer, much better fit now.I'm a 26 yr old male, and its fair to say i do have fairly big teeth, thanks to a good mouth guard i still have all of them.Only thing stopping me giving it 5 stars is that it is quite chunky at the front. This comes with a little plastic case.

Top banana
Haven't been punched hard in the gob, yet, but seems to offer very good protection and moulded perfectly to my teeth. Really great, comfy mouthguard. I have quite a large mouth and this fitted perfectly.
