Biona Organic Sauerkraut 680g, Pack of 6

This product is a larger size and needs to be eaten quite quickly. I don't mind since I use it in salads, for snacking, or with sausages (it is a versatile product and healthy to use often). However, when I need less I buy a smaller size. The texture is smooth with a slight crunch: the cabbage is sliced thinly. I like the taste since it doesn't have the strong 'fermented' aftertaste you find in a lot of sauerkraut products. I find it to be of good, organic quality. I received a glass jar which leaked only once (I've ordered dozens of those in different sizes and colours) and it was reimbursed straight away. Worth a try.

Perfectly good I would guess but first time I've tried it and find it hard to eat. Very bitter vinegar taste which you would expect so I find it better to drain the vinegar and wash with water for my use.

I have to admit, I did not do enough research beforehand and only realised it was pasteurised when I received this. So although there may be no probiotic value to this, I think unpasteurised Sauerkraut still contain some health benefits and it's great value for what you get. The jar is pretty large and you are advised to refrigerate and consume within 7 days after opening which I'm not sure I will be able to do. Makes a great side dish!

Great value and good quality but unfortunately not to my liking. That is only my personal preference on taste. I have served it with salads to many friends who love it. It comes in a large jar which is supposed to be consumed within seven days of opening. I've kept mine in the fridge for a couple of weeks or so and it has remained in perfect condition. Not vinegary or salty, this is a good quality product.

1. Why I bought it Been thinking of fermenting for a long while to get some of those fermented food benefits. Never happened. Came across Biona, who don't have any nasty ingredients, so bought it. 2. First impressions Comes in glass jars, it's a big jar though. I didn't realise the size before buying. It will consume some fridge space, so if short on space, buy the smaller sized one. 3. How it actually performed I've been using it for two weeks now, still on my first jar. Tastes like something you would make at home, a simple, clean sauerkraut. I like to put it into my salads, or as a staple side with lunch as well. Guilt-free. I take it out using a clean fork and submerge the rest of the cabbage into the jar again, and it still feels fresh as new in the fridge. Tastes sour, but not too overwhelming either. It has a very slight initial crunch to it, mostly soft and chewable afterwards. 4. The details the listing doesn't tell you I actually didn't notice this product is pasteurised. I really wanted an unpasteurised one, but then this one stores well. I bought 6 jars and they are pantry storage safe. 5. What I liked and what I'd change I think it's worth the investment for a bulk buy; good amount for the price and has organic ingredients. Plus, it comes in a glass jar. What I'd change: Smaller jars would be better for a single person as the consumer. I also would like an unpasteurised option from Biona. 6. Compared with things I've used before Its a nice crunchy yet soft texture but much more convenient to store. 7. Who I think this is actually for Choose it if you want to add a fermented food to your diet that is healthy and free from nasty ingredients. Can be safely stored in the pantry for longer durations. Once opened, it should ideally be consumed within two weeks, but it can stretch for another two if handled with care. 8. Bottom line Yes, I would buy it again, but I would try smaller jars next time.

Product tastes good , but one jar was smashed because the packaging was not sufficient just a piece of paper scrunched up around the the clear plastic wrapping then placed in a thin cardboard box, three stars because of this.

This sauerkraut is great. It is made with juniper berries, so it has a very fresh taste. I bought several large jars of this sauarkraut, and since I took delivery of it, I have eaten it several times. Far more than I have ever eaten sauerkraut in the past. The price was good too; and the delivery prompt. I recommend this brand of sauerkraut without reservation.
