A brilliant, practical primer on this fascinating subject
I'm relatively non-technical, but was able to get my head around the Blockchain and Bitcoin concepts with this book. Great read.

Great case studies, short on tech details
A bit short, ain't it? (like this review I'm writing ;) ) I wish it could go way deeper in a Blockchain architecture and the methodologies to create your own blockchain as well as the way to exploit existing ones. Anyway, this book contains Case Studies that are really interesting and they will help anybody willing to dive into the Blockchain technology.

Good content, and well researched overview of the field
Good content, and well researched overview of the field, spoilt by writing style. Very difficult to read in many places.

Just listing what "could be" the future for Bitcoin. ...
Just listing what "could be" the future for Bitcoin. Absolutely uninteresting. I consider I have been ripped off by this Melanie Swan.

This is not a great read. I wanted to like it
This is not a great read. I wanted to like it. I love the blockchain and ethereum and all that jazz. It's just that this book seems like it was written by someone who knows about as much as me or less talking at great lengths about very high level applications which could have been summarised in a list. Some of the writing is particularly hairy in places, with a lot of repetition. Given that O'Reilly also published a pretty good book on Bitcoin ("Mastering Bitcoin"), I was disappointed to find that this was not as enlightening.

A point here, a point there and a lot of bull and that's the cover!
I have always admired O'Reilly's use of animals for their covers but this is a genuinely unfortunate choice. One simply cannot resist the temptation to trot out the witticism "A point here, a point there and a lot of bull in between". Fortunately for the witticism, there's a good deal of truth in this particular subject. While this is a competently researched and written summary (based on a dissertation?), the author does become overly enthusiastic about the possibilities of the technology; one would not be all that surprised to hear that it cured warts, dropsy and the putrid throat. There is a reasonable critical balance towards the end, however. The book does fill a useful gap for anyone needing a comprehensive briefing as well as a cautionary feeling for the fervour that surrounds the subject.

Excellent
The best book for getting the big picture of use cases, it’s high-level, so you don’t need to be a developer or IT expert to understand it. Consider that Blockchain is an evolving technology under development, and this book was written in 2015, the basis are the same to understand the foundations of the technology, I totally recommend it.

Perfect to start
The taxonomy of blockchain, crypto currencies and few other important technology information words are well described. The fundamental is strong and it is clear the attempt to make this book a “first read it”; issued in 2015. Still, for research purpose, it misses few “top class” papers and relevant magazines which is completely understandable if you think about the lack of literature at that time in the past. I read and I have it as a backbone of my initial research about the topic.

Concise and Excellent
This is not a technical book on Blockchain or Bitcoin, but it is an excellent summary of the current technology supporting cryptocurrencies and an inspiring collection of ideas for how Blockchain could support a multiplicity of applications, in both the short term and the long run. Copiously sourced with an extensive index. Puny appendices on basic crypto, but again that's not the point of this book; for that see Satoshi white papers and relevant RFCs.
