This can (and I do) mix in freshly made cold RODI water (which iQuatics advise) then I whack a heater in it once the water is nearly totally clear to bring it up to temp. Their measurements of 650g per 20 litres is also spot on for me (Markings on bucket are a bit out hence why some seem to suggest they need more salt, it's more than likely they have more than 20litres of water). Check out the analysis on the website. The issue with tap water is that there are undesirable elements like chlorine which can be rectified with Seachem Prime, heavy metals, nitrates and phosphates. If you are already battling with phosphates and nitrates adding more when you do water changes seems like a losing battle. On the other hand if your levels are ok and your tap water doesn’t have really high values then you should be ok. There are things you can do to help your water, adding carbon like purigen, or any quality carbon will help remove some heavy metals, Red Sea or Reefx NOPOX or similar can help control phosphates and nitrates as well as other products like Seagel (carbon phosphate remover) RowaPhos etc etc so you can manage it depending on your tank requirements, nutrient levels stock levels and species. I would not use tap water if you hope to keep ultra low nutrient levels for SPS but you should be ok bearing in mind the above with softies hardy lps and more forgiving anemones and most fish. I have kept marines since mid 80s back then all we had was tap water under gravel filters, air driven skimmers and with proper care we were able to keep thriving tanks with very basic equipment and tap water . **Q: Would you choose this over instant ocean?
