Fantom-06 Synthesizer Keyboard Bundle with Double Braced X-Style Keyboard Stand, Sustain Pedal, Online Piano Lessons, Instructional DVD, and Austin Bazaar Polishing Cloth

I've owned a lot of synths and workstations over the years, starting with the DX-7 in 1986. My studio isn't large, so I gravitate towards five octave keyboards. I did a lot of research, and decided this would be best for both my live and studio work. This is the most expensive keyboard I've ever bought, though adjusted for inflation, that one-trick pony DX-7 actually cost more. Bottom line: this is amazing once you work through the learning curve, which is steep. Multiple synth engines. Multiple ways of sequencing. An arpeggiator so feature-laden that you could spend days exploring it. Two distinctly different samplers that use their own memory pools. Quirky terminology. VPiano only on Zone one, Tonewheel Organ only on Zone two...the list goes on. But once you learn all that stuff? This thing is amazing. Most importantly for me? It integrates with Ableton Live perfectly and supports pretty much any outboard gear you throw at it. I went through a phase last year and got several of the Roland Boutique synths on the cheap without knowing why; now I know why! Playing a Boutique with its full control surface available to you as an external zone from the Fantom is a blast. And my gazillion plugins on the Mac can all be played as if they're just another Fantom sound ("Scene"). Very very cool and highly recommended! The only downside: this thing is heavy and bulky, and there was no way I was going to try to move it anywhere without a substantial hard case. So I would consider something like the Gator TSA case to be a necessary investment if you get one and plan on doing anything other than home studio work with it.

Amazing bit trick but manageable

I didn't buy this keyboard from Amazon but I do own it and it is an amazing keyboard. It's the closest Roland has come to the X and G series. Beautiful sounds from JV, XV, Supernatural, and Integra to Zen Core sounds, Sampling with a Abelton live style sequencer and song mode. The TR style sequencer that's in the TR 808 is also included. The only thing I have an issue with is the editing function of the sequencer. For example, if your track was 16 measures long, and you made a mistake on measure 3, you can't straightforward tell it to go to measure 3 so you can fix it, but there is a workaround for it. Also there multitrack export, only 2 track mixdown. You can record the multitracks simultaneously into a DAW over USB though because this keyboard can stand alone or act as an audio interface. But to be honest, you really don't need a DAW or anything else to mixdown your tracks because all the eq's, compressors, limiters, saturation, reverb, choruses, masterbus processing and everything else you need is in this keyboard. Also, the Fantom 06 is more gig friendly because it has a plastic case and weighs a lot less than the Fantom 6(Flagship Fantom).
