Rhod Gilbert And The Award-Winning Mince Pie - Live [DVD] [2009]

The DVD hasn't as yet been released but I was fortunate enough to watch Rhod's live show at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny. If the DVD is half as funny as the live show I will buy this item. It's difficult to assess 'funny' as peple's views differ. My sister would probably sit through the show without smiling. I can't believe we're related. My Dad is sometimes of the same view. I cried with laughter on so many occasions watching him live. The pinnacle of the show for me was the duvet scene although all of it was top class. The guy is manic and certainly gives you value for money when watching him live much to the annoyance of the staff as he cruises past his finish time. It's difficult to catergorise Rhod or draw a comparison with any present or past comedian. He's full of energy, delivers superbly and interacts with the audience so well. His material is very original. I've watched Rhod on two occasions and plan on seeing him again in Bath when he tours with his show -'The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst'. Can't wait. When I watch Rhod it provides me with yet another reason to be proud of being Welsh.

I can understand some people don't like Rhod Gilbert, comedy is a personal thing and we all have different tastes. However it would be difficult for me to give this less than 5 stars, as I love Rhod Gilbert.Most people at his live shows never stop laughing, as he rants and raves about all those little things that cause many of us to grit our teeth in real life. How many of us, after bad or frustrating service, have later thought of all those clever comments we could have made, or invented a letter in our minds but never sent it! Rhod has no such reservations in his show, and he expresses these feelings and thoughts for us. Best of all to me, as someone who hates foul language and degrading jokes, there is none of this in his act, it is good clean fun.

Rhod Gilbert has matured in the last couple of years to become one of the most uniquely funny comedians on the stand-up circuit.This DVD is the result and shows him at the very top of his game. He's totally at ease on the stage and with his audience. During the show, he switches from observational rants to flights of pure fantasy with a relaxed ease that comes from a very well crafted basic story, highlighted by his ramblings into the realms of the ridiculous.The material is all fresh, and the residents of his home town of Llanbobl must be so proud that by the end of the show, he has quite literally put the town on the map.If you liked Rhod Gilbert before - you'll love him even more after seeing this.(and don't worry ... the luggage story IS on the extras)

I bought this DVD on the day it was released because after watching Rhod Gilbert on the Royal Variety 2008 I was hungry for more of his sheer genius comedy! I was nor dissapointed. I put it on just because I was cooped up in the house on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, essay writing done and with a cup of coffee in hand I relished the next hour and a half. By the end I was decidedly in love with Rhod Gilbert and would quite happily share my million tog devet with him...so long as he brings his torch! The ending of the DVD, which I don't want to give away, is THE BEST comedy ending ever. Rhod is definately the best comedian of the nougties

It is exactly as described and suits my purposes and so I am pleased with this purchase.

Rhod Gilbert is at the top of his game, the funniest man in the country at the moment. Without doubt this is the best comedy DVDo fthe year in my view.Most of his famous routines are here, the duvet cover, torches and Afganistan, included in a very funny story about his break down over a mince pie. The only routines missing are learning Welsh and improving Wales. My only complaint is that two of the extras, before the show and afterwards, were not included within the main feature. They are both brilliant and add to the show. The second includes his airplane bag handle routine.

This was a present, ostensibly for my other half but I secretly wanted it too! The only reason I bought it was for Rhod's excellent piece about buying a duvet. If you've never seen that, this cd is a must although the full version is even better. I'd seen it on Live at the Apollo and thought it was hilarious. This is in it but there is so much more to his view of life and I love his manic delivery. Don't be put off by the title, in these difficult times, this will make you laugh all year round. Enjoy!

I have a pile of stand-up comedy DVDs that I have slowly accumulated and which I never seem to get round to watching, but having watched this one several months ago I found my self reaching for this one again, rather than something new, as it is delivered so well it is a pleasure to listen to and it doesn't really matter if you know the punchlines. Rhod tells the story of the Award Winning mince pie - taking all sorts of diversions on the way - and coming to a billiant conclusion that ties in all sorts of threads. If you like to listen to a good rant this is a great watch.
