About Installation Easy to install. It can be installed in a place in direct sunlight. When you first use it on, turn the switch to the off position, allow sunlight 24 hours. Two days later, switch to the open position, it will light up at night, it lights off during the day. About Cleaning Regularly with a damp cloth to clean the surface of dust or other debris (Too much dust or debris will reduce the charging efficiency of the solar panels) Feature Light color: White, purple Material: ABS plastic + PP Switch: on / off, auto light sensitivity, white light + light purple Source: monocrystalline silicon solar panel + LED 3LPS Working time: 8 hours Charging time: 6 hours Waterproof rating: IP4 Features: light up at night, lights off during the day Note: 1. Do not touch the iron gauze around the bulb when the switch is ON. 2. Please ensure the lamp is switched on before taking it to gather solar energy,it not charged on OFF switch and it need about 8 hours to charge full power. 3. Because the lamp is light sensitive, it should be installed away from other light source such as street lamps, the solar bug zapper will has better performance if the in the dark surroundings. 4. Please keep the surface of the solar panels clean, otherwise, charge would be influenced. Packaging Include 1 * Solar Powered Bug Zapper lamp 1 * installation instruction

Works Great - Well Worth the ~$20 Price Tag
We are inundated with mosquitoes this summer. Since I was looking for something I could place near the pool, I didn't want to go with an AC zapper - for obvious reasons. Solar charged, battery operated seemed the way to go.When this arrived, I was a little disappointed with the stake provided with it. The stake is only two feet tall, which places the zapper at about knee-high level. Not really ideal for a bug zapper. Luckily, I had an unused citronella oil lamp stake into which this fits perfectly with the pole pieces attached and the stake removed. It does have a hoop on top that you can use to hang it, maybe from a tree or a hook screwed into a pole?Unlike most solar charged, battery operated devices (solar "powered" is a misnomer as none of these devices are powered directly by the sun - the sun charges batteries which in turn then powers the device), the batteries on this are common, NiMH AA rechargeable cells that are easily removable and, therefore, replaceable. This adds to the life span of the device since it's not designed to be disposable once the internal batteries give up the ghost. It also means that you can take the batteries out and charge them independently with an AC connected battery charger. That is exactly what I did when this first arrived because I was too impatient to wait the two to three days recommended in the instructions for the sun to fully charge it.One thing that I didn't take into account, and I should have since it's common sense, is that this doesn't work during the day. Since this charges up during the day, the internal circuitry keeps the device off while the sun is out. I did trick it into coming on by placing a shield over the solar cell, but since the UV LEDs are not bright enough in the daylight to attract insects anyway, it really doesn't help much in the daytime.I've had this running for about a week now and the grid is full of little dead bug carcasses. there's nothing as satisfying as hearing the little zap each time a flying pest meets it maker :) All in all, I'd say that this is well worth the ~$20 price tag.

Most buyers would probably need several for even a small yard
The zapper is attractive and well made. However I cannot readily tell how much of an impact on the mosquito population it has made as the sunny days since placement have been few. And the base population is clearly high given the amount of foliage and recent rainfall. The only real negative is that there is no easy way to recharge the batteries when sunlight has been insufficient of when the target area is naturally low sunlight. . .

2 modes
I like that it is a bug zapper (UV light, purple) and a garden lamp as well (white light) as you can switch from 1 mode to the other. I don't hear the bugs getting zapped maybe because I don't stay out too long but I see dead mosquitos on the lamp. It's smaller than I had expected though so you have to have several of these to cover a large garden.

Small, affordable, effective
This is a nice little bug zapper. It is small and affordable. It's good for controlling flying insects in a small area.I hung it inside our chicken coop. It presumably charges during the day, then it clearly turns on at dusk. Every morning there are moths and mosquitoes stuck to it. I've removed the bottom cage to allow the bugs to fall to the ground as snacks for the chickens

but it still has a good layer of zapped bugs on it so it's clearly ...
Very dim light even after a full afternoon of direct sun, but it still has a good layer of zapped bugs on it so it's clearly effective. Had to glue the plastic spike together or else it would come apart quite easily.

Does not attract bugs
I bought this because it had such good reviews but so far I do not like it. I had it in the sun for a full day and even then the light is just inot bright at all and it's not attracting any bugs and I live in an area with a lot of them. 2 stars because it looks nice but does not work as advertised.
