"The Glen" by Carla Coon
The Glen is worthy of 4 out of 5 stars which is quite an accomplishment for a first novel. This is a particularly strong read if one has knowledge of Catholic or Hebrew faiths but any reader would enjoy the classic good versus evil struggle and the opportunity for the next book despite strong closure of this first story in the promised series. The writing is clean, elegant and establishes the good rhythm necessary to the author's effort at pulling multiple character developments along in parallel before a well choreographed convergence at the end. No character is wasted and this reader did not feel, as one often does, that your time was wasted on storylines that didn't contribute to the whole. Some may find, only in the very beginning, the writing a bit heavy on analogies and adjectives but I found that helpful to rapidly develop complex characters.I plan to the read the next in the series but The Glen stands on its own as a great read.

I like it!
I'm not sure where the story is going, that's why it did not get 5 stars, but its twists and turns keep me going; can't put it down. I don't if extremely devote, religious people would appreciate the theme. It seems to compare Jackie (boy) with Christ, and both he and his mother have out-of-body experiences. The "evil force" is trying to track Jackie down to destroy him, and it's his protectors job to ward off the evil spirits, or aura, or light . . . whatever. I will be looking forward to the end to see how it lets you hanging for two more installments. I'm enjoying it VERY MUCH!

Very impressed
Looking forward to the next book. Some of the free books I've found through this app-- there is clearly a reason they are free...but I treat it like the bargain bin at the front of the bookstore. You never know what little gem will be found. Scored with this one.I actually read this one through quite carefully rather than skimming through: Good story, sympathetic characters, well edited. Just enough details to set the scenes and define love and evil without being too graphic.

I could not put this book down!!!
If it were possible, I would give this book 15 stars. It is that great. As soon as I finished it, I went online and purchased the next book. I must say that, like the Left Behind series, it really makes you think. In parts, this book scared the daylights out of me. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a really good book. I cannot wait to read the reminder of the books in this series.

Incredible first book by a fresh new talent
This book is a testimony to the dynamic new talent of Carla Coon. With believable characters and thoroughly researched, Coon weaves a paranormal web that firmly ties every loose end. This book flows smoothly and entertains thoroughly. It's a very compelling read that I blew through, even though I didn't think I had time! Can't wait for the next installment.-Mary McIver Puthawala, Author, past president of the Central New York chapter of the Romance Writers of America

horror/thriller compellingly deep
have to say I enjoyed this book, well written, the author has penned a fantastic story, weaving very strong religious themes throughout the story with great care and compelling accuracy making it truly enjoyable and not overwhelming. The characters are strong, Reece's strength and determination to protect her savant son Jax from the evil forces trying to take him at every turn. For those who enjoy thrillers and horror "The Glen' truly delivers.
