It's hard to encapsulate the marvel that is the NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 Pro within the confines of a single review. Yet, I shall endeavour to do so. Right off the bat, the elegance and sleek black aesthetic of the device garnered my admiration. It exudes a sense of polished robustness that I found genuinely appealing. Setting up the device was refreshingly straightforward, a smooth process greatly assisted by the larger 7.1cm color LCD touch screen. With a few taps and a swipe here or there, my 5G router was ready to offer me ultra-fast, secure internet with speeds up to 6Gbps. The Nighthawk M6 Pro's performance was a delightful surprise. Avidly downloading large files, streaming high-definition content, and engaging in intense online gaming sessions, the router didn't falter for a second. Its Wi-Fi 6E speeds up to 3.6Gbps for up to 32 devices ensured fast downloads and seamless connectivity. Indeed, this portable 5G modem came to redefine what I thought was possible in terms of mobile Wi-Fi. Moreover, the device demonstrated a vast coverage area, significantly boosting my Wi-Fi up to a staggering 92.5m2 at home. This feature truly unshackles you from the constraints of limited Wi-Fi coverage. Whether I was in my garden, the living room, or even the attic, the router had me covered. However, I did encounter a minor hiccup. The companion Netgear app designed to manage the device failed to connect. Although not a deal-breaker, as you can manage the device through a web browser, it's an inconvenience nonetheless. Furthermore, the price tag may appear daunting at first glance, yet when you consider the device's performance, quality, and the myriad of features it provides, the investment seems more than justified. And let's not forget the peace of mind it brings, given its compatibility with most major 5G & 4G LTE network operators and support for worldwide roaming. The NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 Pro's prowess extends beyond its primary features. The inclusion of a 2.5 Gig Ethernet port for multi-gig wired speeds is a bonus that can not be overlooked. I found this feature incredibly useful when connecting the device to my home Wi-Fi router or when a more stable wired connection was necessary for my laptop. In a nutshell, the NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 Pro is an impeccable marriage of design, function, and performance. Despite a minor hiccup with its companion app, the router proves itself as an unparalleled choice for anyone in pursuit of lightning-fast, reliable, and secure 5G mobile Wi-Fi. This is a product that doesn't merely promise a great experience; it delivers on it!

Sent it back as it was faulty. The device kept restarting, not recognising SIM cards etc. That aside - I would say this; for a premium price tag, this product is of disappointingly poor quality. The whole UI and UX of the device is clunky with annoying delayed and non-registering finger taps when trying to select options on the screen. Also the screen calibration is completely off so clicking one menu item will almost certainly select the one above or below it. I can't speak confidently for the device performance because for the whole 15 minutes I ever got anything running on it, it simply didn't work and speeds never hit above 40mbps (on 5G!) which is comparatively awful against other devices I tested. Maybe I'm spoilt as I've come to expect the quality you get from most premium smartphones in terms of the user experience and screen responsiveness. However, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect this type of quality on a device which costs nearly £800. If quality of product is something you value, avoid this device.

Bought to build a stack of laptops and absolutely incredible piece of kit! Great UI too! 5G speeds make all the difference! Cracking piece of kit!!!

First one was delivered next day but upon power up and setup, the unit would automatically reboot for no reason. After two days I called Netgear and they did an RMA. I received the new unit the very next day. This one worked fine. I tried a few nano sims and all worked fine. Took it to the Dominican Republic and bought a data sim from Claro Mobile for US $15. This worked a treat in the high temperature and humidity and only once powered down due to heat overload. I bought a spare battery but in reality, the batt lasts around 6-8 hours which is fine. The speed of the unit (Wi-Fi 6) is extremely fast. The ethernet port is very useful insofar as security in conjunction with a VPN for business and banking transactions type of traffic which you would be crazy to use the hotel Wi-Fi. The only downside is the high price and that basic setup. There is no means to customise DNS over TLS or other functions which would be on a router in this price point. I would much prefer to choose my own DNS such as Cloudflare.

Works perfectly. Like others I have read in these reviews I had problems connecting to the internet via ethernet but was able to overcome this by connecting to the mains via the supplied power supply.

I’m disappointed with this very expensive (£900) mifi router which promises so much but isn’t yet robust enough to deliver reliably. WiFi coverage indoors is very poor unless you connect it to a separate Wi-Fi mesh which rather defeats the purpose. It overheated, the device diagnostics showed device temperatures of up to 61C, and the device froze on mains power without the battery (as recommended for maximum performance) . I had to insert the battery & reboot several times to get it to work again. I’ve reached out to Netgear Customer Support on 2 separate issues I experienced within 2 days of purchase & days later have had only acknowledgments with case numbers. Reading TrustPilot reviews about Netgear Customer Service is sobering. I really wouldn’t recommend purchasing this router at this time. Update Netgear after much chasing accepted that the unit was defective & offered a replacement. However, their RMA process is much more tortuous than the simple process of obtaining a refund from Amazon so I went for that option. I will do much more research before buying another MiFi router!

Overall the product fulfills its purpose from portability to its intended function which 100% I agree with and would recommend this product to anyone else looking for these requirements.

It's taken me a few weeks to commit to buying this 5G router and I did a lot of research beforehand. I needed something that we can use at home, on the move in the car and for when we go away, so that we can work. I purchased this alongside one of pre-paid sim cards so I'd got an all-in-one solution. Setting up out of the box isn't a case of firing it up and connecting, there is a few settings you need to do to the router, which is simple enough. Good tip is that you put the sim in your phone to make sure that it is activated before adding it to the router. Upon setting up, the device had 9% so I plugged this in using the supplied plug and cable, I couldn't see anywhere to see that it was charging but left it. I went back to it and the unit was dead. I rebooted it and it said that the battery was too low. I unplugged the device and tried it with an iPad charger, nothing. I took the battery out and back in and tried again, this time it worked. Thinking this was just a blip, I popped it in the centre console of our car on charge. I pulled up and fired up my Laptop, no WiFi network was showing so I checked the router, guess what dead. I tried a few things and waited until I got home to try another charger. I ended up purchasing an Anker USB-C charger to try on the unit, this came and if I take the battery out and in, it charges but doesn't last. I contacted AMazon and I have arranged a return, but I am going to purchase another to see if it happens again. When it was working the speed flies, we are in a 5G area at home and could see 125mbps on the download and 10ish on the upload, in Norfolk it was a little bit slower but still usable. Overall disappointed, but will give it one more chance

Apparaat verliest regelmatig de verbinding met internet. Wordt echt heet, zowel bij het laden als bij het gebruik. Zelfs zo heet dat de SIM-kaart defect raakt. Ik ga nu voor de 4e keer een nieuwe SIM-kaart halen bij KPN. Als oplossing geven ze aan, het deksel van de accu te verwijderen. Dan valt de accu er simpelweg uit. Oplossing 2 : verwijder de accu en maak gebuik van netstroom. Dan denk je toch, ik koop een MOBIEL apparaat... hoezo netstroom !!!. Maar goed, je wil toch naar een oplossing toe... en die is er niet. Want zelfs op de bijgeleverde netvoeding, werkt het apparaat niet naar behoren. Had hoge verwachtingen van het merk, en gezien de prijs. Maar dat wordt bij lange na, niet waargemaakt. Ik ga nog met Net Gear in gesprek voor een oplossing, en hoop dat er iets goeds uit komt. Voor nu vind ik het een blamage voor een merk met zo'n omvang. Wordt vervolgd.....

J'avoue qu'en lisant certains commentaires, j'ai eu un peu peur de débourser autant d'argent et le jour où je l'au reçu, j'ai bien cru que c'était justifié. Le 1er jour, l'appareil perdait tout le temps la connexion, au point que je devais redémarrer à chaque fois l'appareil. J'ai perdu 2h à chercher à remédier à ça et j'ai fini par changer l'APN de mon fournisseur internet. Ben ça a fonctionné, plus de perte de connexion. Il fonctionne très bien, j'atteins même plus de 560mb en 5Ghz. Le seul bémol, c'est le signal WiFi qui n'est pas assez fort, j'ai l'appareil dans le salon et dans la chambre qui est à 5m, la télé ne capte pas l'appareil même en modifiant les paramètres de l'appareil à signal fort. Si quelqu'un a une solution pour ça, je suis preneur. Pour le reste, je recommande l'appareil.

Update nach einem Jahr im Einsatz vom 28. Dezember 2023: + Ich bleibe trotz aller negativen Punkte bei 5/5 Sternen, da diese für meinen Einsatzzweck nicht relevant sind, möchte aber einige für eine Kaufentscheidung relevanten Punkte aufzählen. - Es gibt nach wie vor viele Meldungen (z.B. hier, im Netgear Forum und bei Reddit) bez. Überhitzungen und daraus folgenden Verbindungsabbrüchen. Netgear hat ein Firmware Update bereit gestellt, welches die Probleme beheben soll. Wenn das Update diesen Fehler nicht beheben kann, würde ich das Gerät reklamieren / wenn möglich, zurück senden. Also, nach dem Kauf als erstes die Firmware aktualisieren und die Temperatur prüfen. Mein Gerät läuft zwischen 40 und 50 Grad Celsius fehlerfrei. - Der Netgear Support ist m.E. nicht sehr wertvoll. Sowohl in der DE als auch EN Netgear Community werden Fragen und Hinweise auf Fehler weder durch Netgear Mitarbeiter noch durch Teilnehmer aktiv bearbeitet. - Firmware Updates können nur als Upgrade durchgeführt werden. D.h., Firmware Downgrades sind nicht möglich. Die Updates werden wenig dokumentiert. Auf der Netgear Webseite gibt es keine Release Note und keine "alte"/vorherige Firmware. - Die WLAN (2,4 und 5) Reichweite ist für größere Wohnungen oder Häuser nicht ausreichend. Als einziger WLAN Hotspot ist das Gerät zu schwach. Man muss also Repeater einsetzen. Wenn das Gerät in der Nähe / Sichtweite der Endgeräte steht, gibt es nach meiner Erfahrung keine Probleme. - Die Firmware erlaubt nach wie vor kein Band Locking. D.h., man muss darauf vertrauen, dass die Firmware die bestmögliche Kombination aus LTE und 5G Bändern auswählt. - Ein grosser Nachteil ist m.E. das man NICHT zwischen 5G NSA und SA auswählen/umschalten kann. Vodafone und O2/Telefonica setzen 5G in beiden Varianten ein, Telekom wird wohl in 2024 5G SA für Endverbraucher freischalten. Ein LTE/5G Feintuning wie mit der AVM 6850 5G oder oder GL-inet X3000 ist nicht möglich. Rezension vom 31. Januar 2023: Ich hatte vier Jahre einen Netgear M1 im Einsatz und war/bin damit sehr zufrieden. Nach einem Update meines Mobile Vertrages hatte ich die Möglichkeit 5G zu nutzen und habe einen neuen Mobile Router gesucht. Nach einem nicht erfolgreichen Versuch mit dem ZTE MU5001 HyperMobile 5G habe ich den Netgear M6 Pro bestellt. Eigentlich schade, da der ZTE nur ca. 1/3 vom M6 Pro kostet. Meine aktuelle Einschätzung: Positiv + Sehr stabiler Betrieb, keine Abstürze oder Verbindungsabbrüche (Wi-Fi und LTE/5G) mit OS Version NTGX65_10.04.25.00 (wird beim ersten Start als Update angeboten). + Download Geschwindigkeit im Telefonica 5G Netz immer zwischen 100 und 300 MBit/s, auch zur Prime-Time - natürlich vom 5G Ausbau und der Auslastung der Zelle abhängig (mein Vertrag erlaubt 300 MBit). + In einem Test lag die Download Geschwindigkeit des Netgear M6 Pro ca. 40-100% über dem o.g. ZTE MU5001 (selber Standort, selbe SIM Karte). + Dauerhafter Betrieb ohne Batterie, mit dem mitgelieferten USB-C Ladegerät, möglich. + Benutzeroberfläche für Konfiguration einfach und verständlich. Wer die Vorgängermodelle kennt, findet sich sofort zurecht. + Die Signalstärke und -qualität wird für LTE und 5G angezeigt. + Nach meinen Beobachtungen sind die Netgear Mobile Router recht preisstabil. Mein alter Netgear M1 hat vor vier Jahren 280€ gekostet, kostet heute (Januar 2023) ca. 300€. + Basis Konfiguration des Routers m.E. auch für Nicht-Techniker gut möglich. + Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 (Mobilfunk Chipsatz) + Der M6 Pro unterstützt Carrier Aggregation (die Möglichkeit mehrere LTE Bänder parallel zu nutzen) Typ 20. + Der M6 Pro unterstützt lt. Datenblatt 30 LTE und 5G Bänder. Die drei deutschen Mobilfunkanbieter nutzen im wesentlichen acht Bänder. Diese werden alle unterstützt. LTE: Bänder B1, B3, B7, B8. 5G: Bänder N1, N3, N27 und wichtig N78. Neutral +/- Die vorkonfigurierten Power Einstellungen lassen sich nur bedingt anpassen. +/- Der M6 Pro (Modell 6450) deckt die meisten EU Netze ab, teilweise auch Asien. Für die USA gibt es andere Modelle. +/- Mein M1 hat in vier Jahren nur zwei Firmware Updates erhalten. M.E. ein guter Sachverhalt, spricht für eine stabile Software und nicht dem Versuch, permanent neue Funktionen zu ergänzen. +/- Der M6 Pro kann deutlich mehr als die deutschen 5G Netze aktuell leisten können. Diese theoretische Zukunftssicherheit hat ihren Preis und wird ggf. durch die reale Entwicklung überholt. +/- Das Touch-Screen Display reagiert teilweise zögerlich. Man kann aber sehr viele Informationen erhalten und Konfigurationen ohne Computer oder App vornehmen. +/- Die Zurück-Taste und Home-Taste ist auf dem Touch-Screen Display schlecht erkennbar. Diese sind rechts neben dem Display – wenn man es weiß, ist es kein Problem. +/- Mein M1 hat einen SD Card Slot und USB-Port für Media Sharing und Dateispeicher. Der M6 Pro nicht - für mich nicht relevant, deshalb neutral bewertet. +/- In der amerikanischen Netgear Hersteller Community wird über den M6 Pro von Überhitzung und spontanen Reboots berichtet. Das kann ich für meinen M6 Pro, Modell 6450, nicht bestätigen. Der Router läuft stabil, in diesem Moment mit 40 Grad Celsius. +/- Der M1 kann in der Admin Oberfläche herunter gefahren werden (Shutdown). Der M6 Pro nicht - es gibt nur die Möglichkeit für einen Reboot. Bis jetzt habe ich keinen Nachteil festgestellt, z.B. verlorene Einstellungen. Update: 30.03.2023: Dies gilt nur für den "Plugged in" Modus, also den Betrieb ohne Batterie. Im "Performance" und "Balanced" Modus kann man den M6 Pro herunter fahren. Negativ - Nutzung als VPN Client (z.B. Wireguard) nicht möglich. - Keine Möglichkeit die LTE und 5G Bänder und Kombinationen statisch festzulegen (eventuell per Telnet, wie bei den Vorgänger Modellen, möglich - habe ich aber noch nicht getestet). - Es gibt drei Stellen an denen man den aktuellen Typ der Mobilnetz Verbindung sehen/prüfen kann: (1) Auf dem Display des M6 Pro (2) Admin Oberfläche: Settings -> Status > Network (3) Admin Oberfläche: Settings -> Status -> Diagnostics Leider sind die Informationen an den drei Stellen nicht immer konsistent und nachvollziehbar. Beispiel (1) zeigt 5G an. (2) zeigt 5GSUB6 an. (3) zeigt bei 5G RSRP, 5G RSRQ und 5G RS-SNR mit n/a (also kein 5G Empfang) an. In diesem Beispiel ist der M6 Pro in der Administration auf LTE/5G eingestellt. Hier muss Netgear m.E. dringend nachbessern. - Wenn der M6 Pro auf 5G/LTE eingestellt ist und kein 5G verfügbar ist (also nur LTE verfügbar ist), verwendet er nicht immer Carrier Aggregation (CA). In dem Fall hilft es auf manuell auf LTE only umzuschalten. Der Geschwindigkeitsunterschied im Download lag in meinen Tests (mit/ohne CA) bei ca. 30-50 MBit. Info: Im Display wird bei aktiver CA 4g+ angezeigt - in der Admin Oberfläche kann man CA nicht erkennen.. Auch hier muss Netgear m.E. dringend nachbessern. - Update: 30.03.2023: Die Kommunikation bez. der Firmware Updates ist m.E. seitens Netgear stark verbesserungsfähig. Kurz nach dem Kauf wurde im Januar 2023 ein Update auf Version NTGX65_10.04.25.00 angeboten. Am 10.03.2023 wurde ein neues Update mit folgendem Hinweis auf dem Router und in der Adminfläche angeboten: New Update Available A 234 MB update is available for your mobile router. Downloading over a mobile network or while roaming may cause additional charges. MR Beta Release 2: FW 12.01.05.00 / PRI 01.07 Der Versionssprung ist von 10.x auf 12.x, in der Beschreibung steht etwas von "Beta Release", eine Release Note gibt es auf netgear.de und netgear.com nicht. Auf mich wirkt das weder professionell noch vertrauenserweckend. Ich bin ins Risiko gegangen und habe das Update durchgeführt und keine Nachteile oder Verbesserungen festgestellt. Zusammenfassung: Der Preis ist sehr hoch, ca. 1.000 € im Januar 2023. Nach drei Monaten Dauertest in vielen Teilen Deutschlands bin ich sehr zufrieden und würde den M6 Pro (trotz der neutralen und negativen Punkte) wieder kaufen. Wer geschäftlich/beruflich auf mobiles, stabiles und schnelles Internet angewiesen ist, kann m.E. bedenkenlos investieren. Privat und für die temporäre mobile Internet Nutzung würde ich die alternativen Anbieter testen und prüfen ob die Mehrkosten wirklich erforderlich sind.
