An up close and personal biography of this remarkable family written for the general reader. Too bad the author lowered himself to speculating about the sexual orientation of certain activists. Who cares???!!! Worth noting is: 1) there is no bibliography, and 2) the Vintage Books (UK) paperback edition features smallish type on off-white recycled paper making it somewhat hard to read. But this is a fascinating subject and a well-written biography of the entire family, worth the effort. For fact-checking and comparative purposes, see Paula Bartley's "Emmeline Pankhurst," and June Purvis' "Emmeline Pankhurst; A Biography."

An eye opener.
They say it's what goes on behind the scenes in the prominent families that are the real stories to be told and how true with the Pankhursts. A great read.

Meet the Pankhursts
Meet Richard, Emmeline, Christabel, Sylvia, Adela and the two boys! Martin Pugh's portrait of the Pankhursts is thoroughly researched and a page-turner at the same time. In a well-crafted narrative he presents the well-known facts in a different light, looking behind the scenes of the family that changed women's life in Britain.

ganz anstrengende Schwester

Pankhurst
In general an excellent well presented bookHowever felt he does not give the suffragettes the credit they deserve and what they help achieveMy other critisim the author speculates on the sexuailty preferences of some of the suffragettes which makes you think you are reading a tabloid newspaper at timesSuppose the old cleshay men writing womens historyNone less reasonable introduction to the pankhurst and the wider sufferege movement
