Brilliant ND1000 filter with a tiny colour cast that's easily fixed

Thought I'd dip my toe in the silky smooth water a filter like this can achieve so didn't want to spend much at this stage. This filter had few, but very positive reviews, and for the extremely reasonable price I thought I'd give it a go. Long story short, zero complaints, great performance and well exceeded my expectations. The filter itself is very slim and well made - only time will tell how the glass stands up to the rigours of the camera bag. The filter comes in a small plastic case that has some slightly rubbery sponge with a cut-out to hold it in place. I noticed another reviewer said that there was nothing to hold the filter in place - this has not been my experience. The plastic case is not very strong but will certainly protect the filter from knocks and scratches.Everyone knows what type of images can be had from these filters so little point including anything like that, but what people are more interested in is colour cast and any image degradation. I've done numerous test shots and found it has performed very consistently delivering just slightly over 10 stops on average. Depending on lighting (natural vs artificial) I've found it has given between 10 and 10 1/3 stops, so I set my exposure calculator to 10 1/4 stops and that gets me in the sweet spot.Colour cast is minimal and is just a slight shift towards blue. I found that by shifting the white balance up by 225K towards the warmer end of things got the shots right back where they need to be.Looking more closely at the images I could find very little (if any) difference in the sharpness of the shots with the filter, compared to without.I've included a few images to show what I've mentioned above. These are all jpg conversions of the original RAW files with no sharpening or other processing other than a default tone curve. The images were shot with a fixed WB of 3000K and for the image where I have shifted the WB to match the non-filter version, the WB was set at 3225K. Apologies for the boring subject matter, but a least you won't be distracted by some amazing seascape or sunset!

    Great

This was a reluctant purchase really because I hadn’t heard of this brand and didn’t want to spend money on something that was going to decrease the quality of my image. This filter doesn’t! It’s great. Recommended

Who is DolDer? That doesn't matter, this filter is great.

*by M***G on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 November 2016*

This is the only 10 stop ND filter I could find that would screw into the front of the M.ZUIKO 14-42mm kit lens that came with my E-M10 Mk2. After a few days of hand holding a larger square 10 stop filter in front of my lens I really needed this. The fact that it's cheap as chips didn't really put me off as I had noticed in the description that it's made of optical glass and not resin, now although this doesn't guarantee good quality, it does at least set you off in the right direction as optical glass filters are nearly always better than resin filters. It comes in a very nice, sturdy storage case which has foam inside to stop it getting scratched and rattling about.Okay, so how does it perform? Brilliantly is the answer! There is zero colour cast, no effect on image quality and it delivers it's 10 stop promise, am I happy with my purchase? Absolutely, this gets 2 thumbs up from me.
