It is less caustic than some other paint strippers, so might take a few applications, and the brass would most likely need polishing after. I haven't used it for removing paint from metal though, but I do think it's well worth giving it a go. **Q: How affective is this at getting varnish off wood?** A: It is going to depend on the varnish.
