Does battery charger have a safety feature to prevent constant charging overheating of already bad batteries if the voltage stays low?

This lead-acid charger will not turn off automatically when it is fully charged, but will enter the final stage of floating charge, and charge with a small current trickle to keep the battery fully charged and will not overheating and overcharge.

How can I get it out of 6v and into 12v mode? It doesn't change automatically.

Sounds like it may be defective. If the leads are connected to a 12V battery, and power lead to-110v, it should sense that and go to 12V mode. If your battery is completely dead, perhaps there isn’t enough voltage for it to detect? Try a hot batt. Maybe? If it still stays on 6V then it is indeed defective. Hope this is of some help.

Only light on is the mode led =6v. Battery is new but installed and sitting over a year. Will it eventually charge if under the 3v?

Sorry to say I have only trickle charged as Low as 6 volt. ie (lawnmower and Quad batteries). But a trickle charge is just that. Very very small charge to enlighten power in the battery for long term winter storage in my case. If the battery still has life in the cells I believe it should take a charge. If you hook up the T- Charger and the battery is bad it will tell you NG. When my mower battery went bad it would knock off and red light to signal no charge.

What will be the maximum voltage on a 12v lead acid battery before it cycles off and at what voltage will the unit cycle back on?

My agm 12 volt will increase to 13.4 volts which is normal for it when full. Then goes into maintenance. Very few 12 volt batteries are exactly 12 volts. Nost are between 12-14 when at capacity. No danger.

Good value and it works

So far the unit is working perfectly. However, the cord from the unit is relatively short so I just got a longer cord from an old Battery Tender Jr. and spliced it on. Now it reaches from the wall outlet to my motorcycle with ease. If your using it on a battery with is out of the vehicle, then the stock cord is just fine
