Last of a Dying Breed
If you are a hands on 'do it yourselfer', this is definitely the machine for you - beginner or expert. A robust, practical single bed machine that copes well with a wide range of yarn thicknesses from 2ply to double knitting or even finer if you double up. There is a really good selection of punch cards for patterning included with the machine - all of which can be used in four different ways. The instruction manual is remarkably clear and easy to follow from setting up the machine to the processes involved in several patterning techniques both with and without the punchcards. Just what you need to get producing garments as soon as possible. If you want to produce true ribs, jacquard or produce circular knitting though you will need to purchase the matching ribber (SRP60N). Silver Reed are now the only manufacturers of knitting machines but in this instance, they definitely saved the best 'til last!

Very sturdy machine.
Now I've got used to it, I love my knitting machine, but it's quite different to my old Toyotas. Silver Reed are the only company producing KMs these days so not much choice if you want a new machine.

Wont cast on without knotting up.
The machine just wont cast on, let alone knit anything. It jams every time - have spent 2 days trying different tensions to no avail. I just about to climb the walls and throw it out the window. If anyone knows what the hell I am doing wrong please advise. After 4 days, I cast on ok - have spent 2 and half weeks trying to cast off - its just too fiddly, the stiches are so tiny, have tried to cast off using the wool needle and that's too difficult to do, have even tried to put all the stitches onto a knitting needle and that dosnt work either. It makes nice pattern with punch cards, it knits fast - but if you cant cast off, so whats its worth!! The manual isn't easy to follow, it shows pictures of larger stiches then the machine actually does. I am currently at my wits end - at the end of my string with it !!!!! I have tried the tuck stitch and this makes the knitting looser, however, there are 2 stiches on the needs, which makes it impossible to even attempt a cast off. Know what? If there is anyone out there who would like this machine (it works ok, so I guess its just not for me) then I am selling for half the price I paid - which is 700 including a 4 year warrant - so I would say 300 pounds and good luck !!!!

basically happy but....
I am basically happy with the machine but i did not get the whole package: there was no manual (thank god to the youtube), no punch cards and no book of patterns or booklet that was promised in description.

Third time I'm using my warranty since August. Shocking
I'm devastated - I bought this and the ribber in August and it's the third time I'm sending it back. The first time the punch card was completely jammed, the second time the fair isle setting didn't work and this time the machine has come back from the warehouse in such bad packaging that it's damaged again. The warranty has been the only good thing about this machine, but I'm so close to demanding my money back.

WONDERFUL MACHINE, BUT IT TAKES TIME TO LEARN
These are just a few different things Iโve made on my SK280 machine (and ribber in some cases). The versatility of the domestic punchcard machine still amazes me after 30+ years of using one. The previous comments about not being able to cast on are basically user error, there IS a steep learning curve to them, but the potential if you persevere is enormous. Totally recommended. If you need help, there is plenty available on Facebook groups and YouTube, or find a knitting club nearby.
