Welcome back to Futurama , the light-years-ahead-of-its-time animated series from The Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Join Fry, Bender, Leela and the rest of the gang for 13 hilarious new episodes that tackle some of the most controversial subjects in the galaxy... including evolution, mind exchange, feline intelligence and robosexual marriage. Hey, it could happen! Futurama has consistently received high critical acclaim, culminating in a Guinness World Record for "Current Most Critically Acclaimed Animated Series" in 2010. Season 5 includes all 13 new episodes and special features including deleted scenes, full-length audio commentaries, “The Prisoner of Benda” live table read and plenty more. Review: Buy it if you love Futurama - Great quality sadly in the ntsc format but is not noticable unless you are comparing great DVD and great season of Futurama Review: Reaches greater highs than before but some 'filler' material - Having, as so many others, been disappointed at the cancellation of Futurama, I was delighted to see its return. Everyone has their own tastes, of course, and I couldn't possibly account for everyone. However in my view, the best episodes of Season 5 are the best in the programs history. Particular highlights include "Attack of the Killer App", "The Late Philip J. Fry" and "That Darn Katz!". Unfortunately there are a couple of 'dud' episodes, but these are few and far between. It is not that they are 'bad' so to speak but lack the memorable nature of other episodes. "The Prisoner of Benda", was one such example in my opinion, perfectly passable but also forgettable. At the end of the day, it is Futurama - if you liked previous series, you will like this one. however if you are new to the series, there has never been a better time to enjoy some of the most memorable episodes of the whole franchise.

"Every nerd's fantasy!"
I absolutely love Futurama no doubt about it! I quote it often on a daily basis! So after the success of the 4 movies and continuous pressure from fans to bring it back Futurama has returned with great gusto! What I love about the new Futurama is how the writers drop references and characters from earlier episodes back into these new episodes, showing a great deal of care and genuine affection they have for the franchise. My personal highlights of this Season 5 boxset have to be 'The Prisoner of Benda', 'Lethal Inspection', 'Proposition Infinity' and 'The Late Philip J. Fry', very clever episodes for the true diehard fans such as myself. I'm not surprised 'The Prisoner of Benda' was nominated for an Emmy. And Bender dressed up as Leela at Comic Con 3010 declaring himself 'Every nerd's fantasy' is the highlight of the whole box set. Plus Matt Groening and the writers poking fun at Futurama being cancelled with their 'new' series Futurella! Futurama has definitely still got it! I must go now. I feel like I'm coming down with a case of 'Circusitis'. What's this you ask? Just buy this box set! Simple. Bring on Season 6! Hail Futurama!

FUTURAMA'S BACK BABY!
I love FUTURAMA. I've watched the classic episodes a bazillion times on SKY and have yet to grow tired of them. So after viewing the rather disappointing specials, I was really worried that the FUTURAMA writers had lost their touch. Thankfully, my fears were unwarranted. FUTURAMA is back and in terms of quality, hasn't missed a beat since its foolish cancellation by FOX in 2003. And who cares if SKY won't carry it? I'm quite happy to watch it on DVD and enjoy all the extras you get with said. COMEDY CENTRAL have already renewed this great show for another two seasons so lets all hope it runs for a lot longer than it did in its first incarnation. Long live FUTURAMA!

As Good as Any of the 1st Four Series
After three great movies (plus the lame 4th movie, "Into the Wild Green Yonder") it is great to have this excellent series back. And well worth the wait, with 13 excellent episodes. Realistically it is easier to have no dud episodes with such a short season, than some of the longer series, still an excellent return and the set promises a 6th series, so here's hoping. If you bought the first 4 series, do not hesitate to buy this excellent 5th series. Futurama 5 [Blu-ray] [US Import ]

The Future comes to Blu Ray
First, I need to say that this doesn't seem to be Season 5. It appears that Futurama (like Family Guy) is not released on DVD or Blu Ray in broadcast order. There are 13 episodes in this set, but it's not strictly "Season 5". I hated Futurama when it first started. I was so excited for the first few episodes but it got boring after that, trying to coast by mainly on its irreverence while almost never expanding the range of characters. By Season 5, The Simpsons had a huge range of supporting characters, but Futurama rarely introduces new people. After a 5-year hiatus the show returned with 4 feature-length adventures before Comedy Central relaunched the show, this time not pandering to a young Simpsons audience, and it's much, much better. With a few small hitches (mainly scenes involving Mr. Burns clone 'Mom') Season 5 (or what passes for it) features highly intelligent, sharp writing, loads of snappy dialogue, and some heartwarming moments. Even Hermes Conrad, a character I previously disliked, has improved. I just love his ludicrous catchphrases ('Sweet Kangaroo of Katmandu', 'Sweet Orca of Majorca'). Futurama has gotten better, a lot better. It's not a rival to The Simpsons yet, but the show can only get better and better if they keep this up. Now animated in HD, the show is presented in 1.78:1 1080p with DTS HD-MA sound and loads of great extras. You absolutely must buy this.

As good as ever, maybe even better :-)
After watching series 1-4 then the movies I paused before buying the new futurama series: would be it be the same after such a long time inbetween series I wondered, or would it be futurama by numbers? Well I need not have feared, if anything its evolved without losing its persona. In short I can only quote futuramas hypno toad "buy it buy it buy it........"

Futurama Vol 5 is Alive!
Blu-Ray Review. If you are reading this in the "Futurama Vol 5" DVD review section, the quality score might not apply. Show: 4/5, Image Quality: 5/5, Sound Quality: 5/5, Extras: 3/5, Overall: 4.67/5 (rounded up in total star ranking) Quality: Looks like this show was animated in HD; the image looks darn near perfect! It's a nice clear clean image with lots of detail and sharpness. There are no noticeable signs of compression, pixilation, or anything else. Sound quality is pleasing. This two-disc set includes commentaries on all episodes, an amusing animated comic with optional commentary (based on one of the given episodes), a music video featuring Bender (made from previous Futurama episodes), a "Behind the Fungus: Makin' a Hit Song" featurette, a 35-minute table read (cast and producers reading the script with the original animated storyboard; it's amusing, but there's a lot of laughter in the recording that hampers it a little), deleted scenes, and an episode recap. These discs are packaged in a thin cardboard case. It has nice retro artwork with a glossy finish, but the discs are pretty flimsily held in slots in the cardboard. Film: After four solid seasons and four serviceable movies, "Futurama!" has had quite a turbulent run. This fifth volume features episodes from the revived televised series, and after all this time it has certainly drifted a ways from the original episodes. You can expect more zany and busy storylines, more strange wacky gags, and a little bit of gross-out humor. But since when has that ever been a problem? The show is still pretty darn funny, with plenty of hilarious dialogue, humorous sight gags, clever twists and turns, and lots of great parodies and homage to science fiction (classic or modern). And the show still maintains the upbeat offbeat adventurous spirit and creativity that makes the first half so much fun. Characters are still as lovable as ever before (not counting Zoidberg of course). And to sweeten the deal, this show has clearly benefited from some upgraded animation. It shows a little more clarity and detail than before, but without going overboard or messing up the established style. Voice acting is still excellent and the music is still groovy. Fans of the show should be pleased. 4/5 (entertainment: 4.5/5, stories: 3.5/5, film: 4/5)

Confusion: Volume 5 --- Season 5 ?
I am still confused. I have the 'Complete Collection' in Bender's Head that carries Seasons 1-4 and the four direct-to-dvd movies, and Volumes 6 and 7. I think I'm missing the episodes on Volume 5, but can't determine if Volume 5 and Season 5 are the same. I wish they'd stick to one nomenclature to avoid confusion. I'd like to see a list of Seasons and Volumes, side by side for comparison so I don't waste money on duplicates. Review Update: I found the information I was looking for. To save the rest of you the time/effort of online research: Futurama: from Wikipedia: The American animated science fiction sitcom Futurama, created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company, aired on Fox from March 28, 1999 to August 2003; Cartoon Network's Adult Swim aired reruns of the show from 2003 through 2007. Following a commitment from 20th Century Fox Television to produce four straight-to-DVD Futurama films, Comedy Central announced in June 2006 that they were resurrecting the show and would air the films as new Futurama episodes (reconfiguring each film into four episodes) after each film's DVD release.[1][2] Comedy Central began airing Futurama reruns in January 2008 and broadcast the first film in March 2008.[3] Following the four films (considered the fifth season of the show), Comedy Central has broadcast a sixth season of twenty-six episodes, split over 2010 and 2011.[4] A seventh season was announced in March 2011 and debuted in the summer of 2012.[5] As of August 29, 2012, Futurama has broadcast 127 episodes, concluding the first half of the seventh season. The series is currently on hiatus and will return in mid-2013.[6] The original 72-episode run of Futurama was produced as four seasons; Fox broadcast the episodes out of the intended order, resulting in five aired seasons. On April 22, 2013, Comedy Central cancelled Futurama, announcing a series finale date of September 4, 2013.[7] ===================================================================================== Here is a list of my collection, including Volume 5, which will complete it when I buy it in May [update: I now have every episode to date): Personal Note: The 'Volumes' are collections for home use, in the order they were produced... I hope they can return to TV soon. I also hope they do what they did the last time, and release new episodes as direct-to-dvd movies. I hate it when the Networks cancel a popular show, just because 'ratings' are down. I would love to see Comedy Central FLOODED with requests to keep Futurama. Maybe with enough fan mail, they'll reconsider their folly and bring Futurama back. Also, enough complaints to the FCC will help to inform them that this show is in the public interest and should be reinstated... At the very least, I hope Matt and David chose to make direct to DVD movies in the interim...
