Marathon Plus Bicycle tire- 16, 20, 24, 26, 27.5 & 28 inches – Flat-Less tire for Bicycles – SmartGuard

I got the 700 x 32c. So far, so good. With all the griping about mounting I was a little concerned, however I found it mounted just like any other stiff wire bead tire. I massaged it on carefully and I used my tire levers in reverse to lever on the last 12-16" of tight fit on the outer bead. Of course, when doing it that way you have to be very careful not to pinch the tube. and I personally find that the easiest way to use the levers is sticking one in at one end of the gap and holding it there with my left hand while alternately using the other lever, taking very small bites, to pry the other end of the gap. Sometimes a third lever is useful if you can manage it. It only took me 15 minutes to mount. I could do this in the field but I wouldn't want to if i didn't have to. I formerly used the Marathon Supremes, which mount VERY easily but are very expensive. I opted for what I hope will be durability and cost effectiveness. I will keep this post edited once I've put miles on the tire. Oh, and my amazon order registered for 700 x 25c even though I wanted 32's. Bikewagon responded to my e-mail and corrected my order before sending it. Much appreciated. EDIT 7/11/16 With about 300 miles on the tire, I can't discern any real-world difference between this and the Marathon Supreme in terms of pedaling effort. Perhaps it offers just a slightly harder ride but overall, not much change at all. No flats, no extra pumping... just a solid tire. I'm still very happy with this one.

Let's say it up front. This is a heavy tire. However, it's heavy 'cause it's built like a tank. I've got over 900 miles on them and I can still see the front tire's mold line. Normally you'd think a tire that hard would be difficult to handle with poor cornering. Not so. Wet and dry the grip is good. I wouldn't go racing with it, but once you get it up to speed it rolls well. I run about 70 PSI and the tire soaks up minor road roughness very well. That's a good thing because my city doesn't maintain the streets as well as they once did. On smooth pavement the tire sings a sweet little tune that's just barely audible. They're not cheap, but they should last 2 to 3 times as long as a lightweight skinny tire. I seldom got more than 2000 miles from a 700x20, but then I weigh 90 kilos. For a commuter or long distance touring bike this is a great choice. PS: Don't believe the word out that the tires are hard to mount. However - there are tricks you MUST know. I mounted both tires in under 20 minutes _without_ tools. Brute force is NOT the answer. I use strapping tape to secure the parts of the tire that I've mounted and COMPRESS the casing so that the tire is pushed towards the unmounted side. After 4 or 5 taped areas about 8 inches apart I can then use my hands to push the casing over the rim. And of course you must be very cautious airing the tube to prevent blowouts.

After many reviews I was scared to death it would be hard to install and ride like forklift tire. Watched some videos on ebay on how to install and it only took 5 minutes a tire! 2 yeard ago i purchased panaracer peselas 700x28. rode nicely but were nmade of wet rice paper and flatted every other ride. Found some conti ultra sport II's 700x23 never went flat but I commute at night and felt like my bike was balancing on a razor blade after too much coffee. so for year and a half I ran Kenda Kwest 700x35. very few issues except for innertube valves blowing out. and were starting to get punctured this winter from road debris. So after 4 flat tires I made the plunge and ordered Marathon plus 700x28. I like larger tires but didnt want all the extra weight, And these are legendarily heavy and slow rolling. to my suprise they felt lite and nimble but stable as well. on the uphills I was in a higher gear than usual, the descents were confidence inspiring, and the flats Felt like I was drafting the baby Jesus on a magic carpet. I cannot comment yet on long term, but initial impressions are a superb tire and woth every penny!

Expensive tire but it holds up well in city riding. I have bought a few of these and they last a long time.

After reading a number of online reviews, especially from others who have biked from the west to east coast of the U.S, I decided to get the Schwalbe-Marathon Plus bike tires. Here in Arizona with all the cactus and such, I had 3 flats out of the last 5 rides. I read reviews of cross country bikers who went over 2000 kilometers on these without a flat. Sounded good to me. As other reviews noted, the tires are hard to get on. However, there are some youtube videos showing how to make it a bit easier. And of course the easiest route is pay someone at a bike shop to mount them. The tires are heavier than my previous ones, but they feel like they have less rolling resistance then my previous ones. And the time I save by not having a flat is worth the extra weight. So far, so good, no flats in the several long rides since I got them. I'll keep you posted on how long they go without a flat.

I got a pair of these for my husband's hybrid bike (700x35c) and my road bike (700x25c), both of which we use daily for commuting over some of the most glass-littered roads in existence (maybe an exaggeration, but it certainly feels that way sometimes). My husband's I installed at the beginning of the summer and mine about a month later and (now in September) we have had only one flat between the two of us, and it was on the rim side not the tire side. Some other reviewers have mentioned problems with the extra layer being off-center, but I did not see any such problem with any of the 4 tires I installed. Once they're fitted on the wheel and ready to go, they ride really nice and I'm excited to see the difference in number of flats with them going forward. So about fitting them...yeah, it's going to be rough, especially with the narrower tires. They are pretty stiff tires so it takes a lot of maneuvering to get enough slack to get the last few inches over the rim. For mine, I actually put them down and came back to them the next day...and the next day...before I finally rigged up a method for getting them fitted on the rim. Now, I'm only working with an hour or so of spare time after work, dinner, and putting the kiddo to bed, and my hands were very sore from day 1's effort so on day 2 I was really just half-heartedly playing with the tire while watching TV, and I am by no means an expert when it comes to fitting up bike tires, but you get the point - it's going to be tricky. To help, I would suggest looking up GCN's YouTube video titled "How To Fit Any Difficult-To-Fit Bike Tyre", where they give you some helpful pointers (albeit while demonstrating with the easiest-to-fit tire I've ever seen).

I threw these on my Fuji Touring bike after getting a flat on the stock tires, and it was a match made in heaven. The 30 lb beast couldn't care less about a few extra pounds. They were a little challenging to mount the first time, but it was definitely possible without tools, and after that first time it was easier. They do seem to deliver on durability and puncture resistance - no problems after 500+ miles, though i recently found a cut in the rear tire that almost certainly would have flattened a standard tire - but there is a penalty in weight and rolling resistance. Nevertheless, I find it very reassuring to have them on my wheels, and they do a pretty decent job muting the road buzz at the lower end of the recommended pressure range. I definitely recommend them for touring, commuting, and recreational riding where speed is not a concern. I have also used them on gravel, and they work fine in non-technical, well maintained conditions. Obviously not ideal though. For rougher, loose gravel I definitely don't recommend them.

I have purchased two pairs of these (700x25 wire beaded), one that lasted the full five years from 2015 to 2020, and one that I've used from the start of 2020 until now. I ride mostly as a commuter, then for errands around town, and occasionally for fun and light bikepacking. When I got my road bike, the shop suggested that I go with Specialized Armadillo tires for puncture resistance, as the streets where I lived were not well kept. I experienced flats about once a month for the nine months I had them, until I decided to try these on the off-chance that other tires could do better. I have been tremendously impressed - I've probably had three flats total in the ten years that I've used these, across two sets of wheels, and these were from objects large and sharp enough that no tire could possibly have done any better. The tires do well rain or shine, and have given me good traction in the occasional periods where I've traveled on dirt trails. I don't have experience using these around ice and snow. I use these past the point where the tread has substantially worn down on the center of the tire, because they continue to work very well. I had to purchase a set of tire levers to get them on and off my wheels, but this might be an issue with all tires of this construction. Either way, it is easy enough to do with the levers and avoid pinch flats, and since I virtually never experience flats this downside is almost irrelevant. I can't think of a reason why I would ever voluntarily replace my tires with a different model.

I have these tyres on 3 x bikes. I have 25mm version on road bike and 35mm version on my winter bike and gravel bike. Well made and very sturdy I have covered many many miles and only had 1 x puncture and that was a very sharp rose thorn on an off road track. They roll well and were a perfect fit on 3 x different types of rim. They are a bit tight first fit but not over the top and I have no problems using normal tyre leavers to remove and fit by hand only. I'm a life long cyclist and recommend these tyres and ride them with confidence.

C'est le troisième vélo avec lesquels j'ai toujours utilisé ces pneus. Jamais eu de crevaisons, environ 30,000 km de parcouru jusqu'à présent avec les trois vélo. Efficace pavé et gravel. Un peu plus de friction qu'un pneus lisse. Plus cher mais dure plus longtemps. Plus confortable et très visible le soir !

Comme à son habitude, Schwalbe nous propose là un produit réussi. Après 1 000 km au guidon de mon vtc chaussé de ces pneus, aucune crevaison à signaler. Et pourtant, je roule sur des routes très sales (proche déchetterie) avec bouts de verre pilé, vis, boulons, cailloux pointus, etc. Difficile de trouver meilleure mise en condition. Remplacez vos pneus par des marathon plus, vous ne serez pas déçus.

Bought a set of these for my Specialized Sirrus Sport. Very strong and good quality tyres. The reflective side wall is a good feature to provide that all important extra visibility when I cycle home from work at night. Although you will need to keep the side wall clean to prevent it from being obscured by dirt. I give the tyres a wipe with a damp sponge before I lock it up for the evening. I'm use my bike mainly for commuting on cycle paths and road and the tires perform very well. They were perhaps a little tough to fit but I managed with a little perseverance. Also worth noting that they're heavier than the cheaper more flexible (and presumably lower quality) tyres I had before. Nonetheless, I recommend spending a little more to get a pair of these. a worthwhile expenditure. The delivery was excellent and prompt (ordering on a Sunday afternoon with 3-5 days postage selected and arriving on the following Wednesday) - the seller comes well recommended and would definitely use again.
