This is an upgrade from our previous VAX carpet cleaner which we have had for years and used a lot but it finally blew up. The annoying thing we have with the old one was it was so difficult to clean when you have pets and get hair up inside it You would have to unscrew it and take it all apart. I am so thrilled to discover that this one all comes apart without undoing screws and I can clean every single part of it easily. Now I'm annoyed I didn't upgrade to this one sooner but it's fantastic it's not heavy to push the cord is nice and long so you get plenty of length it's so easy to use and has left the carpet reasonably dry and you can also go over it again by pressing the dry button I have to say I'm extremely impressed

An absolutely fabulous cleaner, even better than our old Vax which we finally retired. Cleans better, dries better. Cannot believe the improvement in the colour of our carpets, even though we vacuum every day and don't allow shoes in the house 100% recommended.

As a pet owner, keeping carpets looking fresh can feel impossible—but this machine makes it effortless. The automatic washing and drying system is incredibly convenient; all I have to do is push forward to wash and pull back to dry. It takes the guesswork out of carpet cleaning. The suction power is impressive, and it lifted deep-set dirt and stains I thought were permanent. The included pet tool is fantastic for stairs, upholstery, and those stubborn little messes pets tend to leave behind. I also love that the machine dispenses the right amount of solution automatically—no mixing, no mess. After one full clean, my carpets looked visibly brighter, smelled fresh, and dried surprisingly quickly. The build quality feels solid, and despite being powerful, the machine is easy to move around and store. If you have pets—or just want professional-level results at home—the Vax Platinum SmartWash Pet-Design is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended!

This has been my first effort with a carpet cleaning machine such as this one, so I am unable to compare it with other similar types. I am impressed. The machine arrived well packaged and in perfect condition. There is a very good instruction booklet within the box that explained the very minimal assembly required, along with clear instructions for safe use of this device. After only a few minutes I was ready for my first attempts at cleaning the carpets. It is noisy, there is no denying that, much like a rather loud vacuum cleaner. I do not however find it uncomfortably so, but others may appreciate wearing some sort of ear defenders/plugs. The machine will soon go through a tank of warm water while getting a good deal of cleaning done. I like that the machine washes when going forward, and dries when pulled back. The machine can also rinse only (no soap) and be set to dry only. Once I have made at least one pass, I like to rinse, then set the machine to dry only mode where it will suck up a good amount of water, but of course it will not make the carpets absolutely dry. I use a dehumidifier overnight for that, and in the morning all carpets are dry and look totally re-invigorated. I was very impressed how it brings a carpet back to life. There is a small bottle of 'concentrated' cleaner for use on stubborn stains (this goes into the small tank on the handle for pre-treatment) and this works very well, lifting stains with apparent ease. I have not yet used the hose attachment with the smaller cleaning nozzle, but it is nice to have and will be required at some point in the future. This machine is not cheap, but it is well made. It has clear instructions and is easy to operate. Most importantly, it really does clean well.

Easy to use and clean out after use.

This is an incredible piece of kit. In the past I have used bulky “ Rug Doctor” machines with the expensive Rug Doctor products which are very heavy, hard to transport etc. This decided me to purchase the Vax Smartwash after seeing reviews. The price on Amazon was excellent. The cleaning samples, attachments all of excellent quality. I used it on 100% wool stair and lounge carpets that had not been cleaned for a year or two. Along with two sofas.As i wanted a wool safe cleaning product I also ordered the Vax plus 4 litre cleaner. All the results are excellent. My only tip was whilst using the hose and attachment on the sofa during the moisture removal , the clear plastic cover detached. I found it was worth using your index finger on top of the clear plastic cover detached cover as you put pressure on cushions ( see photo). As an extra aid I used a couple of old towels to wipe the sofa to reduce the drying time.

Updated revenue, after several months of use its still brilliant. I have 3 dogs and one still makes mistakes indoors. However as much as you vacuum and think its clean. This drags up fine dog hair deep in the carpet, and still amaze me how much dirt it picks up . The prescribed platinum solution is great, removes them doggy smells that build up over time. Its a must buy. After a couple time of cleaning vax , like field stripping a weapon becomes second natural. And do clean it properly after use, which I've got down to a fine art. 100% approve.

Disclaimer: We have 3 puppies and live in an old cottage with a lot of carpet :) Let's review this carpet cleaner ! It's really light when empty, and I would to first get it in the room/area you want befre filling the water tank ;) Our house is really old and the carpets are pretty old as well, but using this with a dedicated carpet cleaning product made a real difference : Cleaned room smelled almost like new. It's really efficient on dirt removal in the carpets and is well made. You can push it to the limit, it will remain really effective ! Overall, it's a great value for the money we bought it for. We are really happy, and I still remember the old cleaner my parents used when I was a child and this is so much better and easier to use ! (of course there was a lot of upgrades in 35 tears, but still, this is impressive !)
