It should work for it. The strap is elastic, but it can be used without the strap. Just sit your projector on the stand. The stand is adjustable with height.

No instructions included. Can I assemble it easily without instructions? Looks complicated.

They have provided installation videos and you can also download the electronic instructions at the bottom of Product Description. The stand is easy to install, taking only a few minutes.

Wil it fot behind the couch if the couch is against the wall? What is the cleatance measurement wise for the legs?

If the couch is against the wall then no you need to move the sofa a little bit so that the tripod can fit.
