Keith, a UC Davis-trained geologist and student of viticulture and oenology, inspected Red Mountain and realized its potential. Impressed with the concentration and depth of the fruit it produced, they set about clearing the land by hand, drilling wells and planting vines. ReNae, who studied accountancy, would make the long treks from their home in Redmond, Washington each weekend and learned to fit irrigation pipes. They added roads and wells in ’93, and progress was so rapid it allowed the first 40 acres of vines to be planted. By the autumn of ’93, Terra Blanca had its first crush with purchased fruit. In ’97, Keith bottled our first estate-grown Merlot. Keith Pilgrim’s roots in Geology are evident in his winemaking as he blends art and science to excel in representing the terroir of the unique Red Mountain AVA. Nearly all Terra Blancca wines are made from fruit grown on property, making it a true estate vineyard. Keith’s goal has always been to leave the land in a better condition than he found it. This respect is why we model our brand around three very important factors: white earth, blue skies, and red mountain. “Terra Blanca,” Latin for “white earth,” signifies the calcium carbonate-rich soils known to produce spectacular fruit. Red Mountain is located in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains so blue skies are constant here. This combination of slope, soil composition, and climate make our vineyard and the wine it produces one of a kind. "We are committed to the terroir of Red Mountain where we sustainably grow, craft, and sell the best collection of estate wines." -WINEMAKER KEITH PILGRIM
