Another great season
This set includes all twenty-three episodes over five discs of the third season of the brilliant 'Arrow' series. This season, in my opinion, is easily the best that the show has produced so far with some great action, an interesting plot and some good humour throughout the series. As with the previous seasons, there are two separate plots ongoing throughout the series, one in the present and one in the past. The past plotline set in Hong Kong probably isn’t quite as good as the Island plotlines of the previous two seasons but it does have some nice moments including the introduction of Tatsu Yamashiro/Katana. The main plotline in the present however is very interesting as Oliver and his friends continue to fight crime in Starling city only for various forces complicating matters and the League of Assassins gives Oliver his toughest challenges yet. The present storyline also includes a nice subplot involving crime boss Danny "Brick" Brickwell attempts to take over the Glades and this is probably my favourite part of the series. This season includes a lot of very entertaining episodes throughout its run with those involving Brick being some of my favourites, as I have already mentioned. Other than these episodes, some of my favourites include the 'Flash'/'Arrow' crossover episode 'The Brave and the Bold' (that sees the two heroes team up to take on Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang) and 'The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak' (a brilliantly funny episode that reveals some of Felicity’s background as well as involving a rather different version of Brother Eye). On the downside, some of the episodes in the first half of the season are probably a little lacklustre as the seasons tries to find its feet once again with the rather silly episode 'Draw Back Your Bow' (that introduces crazy stalker Carrie Cutter/Cupid) to be less entertaining. The season introduces a number of new DC characters to the show with Ted Grant/Wildcat, Michael Amar/Murmur making appearances alongside those I have already mentioned. The series also introduces Ray Palmer (portrayed brilliantly by Brandon Routh) developing a rather Iron Man inspired A.T.O.M. suit. There League of Assassins also gets a much bigger role this season with Ra's Al-Ghul (played very well by Matt Nable) taking the role of main antagonist for the season as a whole. The acting of all the cast members is as good as in the previous seasons with all the principle and recurring cast giving good performances with my favourites being Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer, Katrina Law as Nyssa Al-Ghul and Vinnie Jones as Brick. The special effects and fight choreography of the series remains good for a TV show with the fights between Oliver and Ra’s being particularly good, as is the fight between Katana and Saraab. There are a few issues here and there however (such as when it is painfully obvious that various swords are blunt) but these are relatively minor issues that can probably be ignored.Overall this was a very entertaining third season for 'Arrow' and I would probably consider it to be a low five star series.

Arrow continues to lead the way for DC on TV
I enjoy watching a lot of fantasy & cult TV. I love how the genre allows me to escape my daily worries & troubles, transporting me to a different world for a period of time, and Arrow is definitely among the best of them.I was initially hesitant with committing to this program when it first came out, but after reading favorable reviews, I decided to give it a go. fast-forward a couple of years & here I am 3 seasons in. Generally loving every second. The show has a generally dark tone to it, but this is occasionally offset by moments of light & humour provided by some of the regular cast.Season 3 brings a new 'big bad' in the shape of Ra's al Ghul (a regular in the Batman world), re-introduces some previously seen characters, adds some new ones, and changes some existing characters, leading to the further expansion of 'Team Arrow'.I'll not give anything away, but suffice to say that there are a few big surprises in store (if you have managed to avoid all the spoilers online), and a lot of secrets kept by many of the characters which brings tension & questioned loyalties to the Arrowverse, which makes for interesting viewing. My only criticism of this season is that I felt the middle section dragged a little as we built-up to the climax of the season, which I did not feel during seasons 1 & 2. However, that's not to say that I feel that Arrow is loosing it, just that they have set the bar so high for this type of entertainment, that it must be hard to consistently keep everything running at 100% all of the time. I can assure you that I'm already looking forward to season 4 & that you would do too.

ACTION IN PLENTY, MOTIVES UNDER SCRUTINY
Another strong season crammed with action, special effects and soul searching. The tone now is ever more dark. Arrow questions whether he is in fact achieving much. Now averse to killing, he wonders what is the point of trying to rid Starling of its villains ("You have failed this city"). When handed over to the authorities, they too often escape to create further mayhem. Early death of one of his Team also adds to his self-doubt, that loss to have repercussions that change everything. This may all seem profoundly depressing, but such introspection adds depth and there remains much excitement. Those wanting to see violent deaths will be happy with flashbacks to Hong Kong, where there are plenty. Many lives are also cut short when in the headquarters of the cult of assassins, a remote temple destined to play an important part in Arrow's destiny.Lightening the mood is a crossover episode featuring The Flash. Also welcome is Brandon Routh as rich genius Ray Palmer. Can there be another super-hero in the making?Stephen Amell convinces as rugged Oliver Queen, those experiences on the island forever to prey on his mind. John Barrowman makes his presence felt on return as Malcolm, now showing a more sympathetic side. (Or is this just an act, he as treacherous as ever he was?) Over-the-top villains abound, but arguably the more subtle portrayal of Ra's al Ghul makes the most impact.23 episodes. Two commentaries. Many interesting extras. One concerns the costumes (actors feeling "ready to go" immediately they are donned). Another tells how the Temple set was constructed, creators trying to avoid comparison with the Temple so impressively featured in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins". The 2014 Comic-Con session is fortunately far more than "you know"s and screeches, many cast on fine form as they answer questions (Barrowman, as usual, irrepressible).Critics no doubt will find much to fault. Instead I found much to enjoy, ARROW 3 greatly enhancing several evenings.

BD Media Not Dependable For These
We binge this and love the content; season two a bit cheesy, but it is the best superhero material on TV. The stars are superhumanly talented, both physically and theatrically! That being said, this format is very undependable, which can ruin the experience. Season 1 of the BD set played through; season 2 had smudged discs and could not be cleaned--Amazon replaced; season 3 had a faulty disc 4, and fortunately we were within the time to return them. This time I elected just to refund, because I could not be assured the replacement would be any good. I just went with the stream online. I'll maybe buy them later when the price drops. Maybe.
