It is all that it claims to be and nothing more. All illustrations with brief data about each item shown. No interpretive text. So, if you already know what you're looking at, and want to see more of it, this is a great book. If you're more interested in who made or wore these, when , where, how and why, you might better choose another source.

Il libro in sé è di sicuro effetto, moltissimi i disegni riportati che saturano le pagine. A mio avviso non è tuttavia molto scientifico, sono riportati pochissimi dati sugli esemplari proposti, località indicate in fondo al libro ma nessuna descrizione nello specifico dei pezzi. Rimane comunque un buon testo per dare un'idea generale del vasto mondo delle fibule romane. Almeno il prezzo permette di avere a portata di mano un manuale figurato (non descrittivo!) pronto all'uso per orientarsi tra le varie tipologie, cosa di certo non a buon mercato pensando ai volumi originali. Molte tipologie mancano, ma altrettante sono riportate con chiari disegni. Mi sento di consigliarlo a tutti coloro che si avvicinano a questo mondo volendo "lustrarsi gli occhi" senza pretese scientifiche e soprattutto budget ristretti.

Alle Broschen sind groß genug abgebildet und schön detailliert. Ein bisschen wirr von der Sortierung her. Sehr schön zum Durchblättern.

A brilliant book for anybody wanting to identify types of Roman brooch. Hundreds are illustrated, grouped by type. Also covered are a number of pre and post Roman brooches. One of the best resources for identification.

This book gives pictures of a wide variety of different fibulae designs and is very helpful in identifying the classification and date of objects found.
