This a grest door closer and easy to install.
This is a solid door closer. It's made of steel and not aluminum so it's going to last. It's powder coated in a metallic grey color so it's not going to rust out. It comes well packaged with everything you see in my picture except the ruler I added for size reference. Installation is straight forward using the directions including. Pay close attention to the template and the diagrams of how to position it for various situations. The template has lines that you position to the hinge edge of the door so you know your installing it where it needs to be. The arm is threaded on one end so it can extend out an extra 4 inches for a recessed door. You can mount it with the body on the door or on the door frame. It opens to nearly 180°, depending on how much you preload it. It's got adjustable speeds for closing and latching. So you can set it to close faster then latch slower for a quiet close. I am not sure how heavy of a door this could be installed on but I used it on a heavy glass and wood door to our sunroom and it doesn't have any problems. This is a quality product at a good price and represents a great value. If you need a new closer, stop looking and buy this one.

Very hard to open door but works and is quiet
Followed the instructions. Didn't realize the arm coming from the hydraulic door mounted part should not be 90 degrees as it shows in all its diagrams. The arm mounted above the door should be 90 degrees. Getting the arm from above the door to slide down over the arm from the hydraulic portion was a bit hard. I did bang on it a few times with my heavy duty side cutters. This did leave some minor chips in the paint which will probably rust at some point. However, a snug fit is probably better then a loose fit. When you take the parts out of the package you will immediately be impressed with this ultra heavy duty feeling door closer. All the parts feel like heavy duty steel. I doubt they are truly heavy duty steel at this price, but whatever they are, everything is very heavy! After adjustment, the door closes and latches perfectly. The one downside is the door is VERY HARD to open. I even moved the part above the door over about 4 inches to see if it made it easier. It seemed to make it a little easier but the door is still very hard to open. Overall if you want to stop people leaving doors open or slamming doors, this is a great solution. I ordered four. Just finished the first one. Three more to go. Will I get them installed before you order yours, receive it, and install it? Choosing between kiddo constantly slamming all the doors in the house inducing fight or flight all day long or having doors that are hard to open but never slam, I am going no slam every time. Which do you prefer?

Easy to install and works great!
The closer is compact and appears well made. The instructions were easy to follow and include a reversable drilling template for mounting on doors with either left or right mounted hinges. I highly reccomend this closer and would buy it again in a heartbeat. This replaced a spring loaded hinge and the difference is astounding! It closes my door quietly and completely whereas the spring loaded hinge would either slam the door shut or leave it open a crack allowing mice to sneak in. I avoided this type of closer before thinking it would be too difficult for me to install, but with this unit I could not have been more wrong. The instructions, and more importantly the drilling template, made the job quick and easy. I simply taped the template to the door, marked the screw locations, removed the template, and drilled the holes. Everything lined up perfectly and it was installed and adjusted in under 30 minutes. Initially the door was stiff to open, but after following the recommendation in the guide the door was easier to open and it still took less than 30 mjnutes to complete the job! My wife and daughter (who is no longer startled awake by the door slamming near her room) absolutely love this item, and since the door always closes completely and keeps the mice out, so do I. If this old man can install it, so can you!

Works Perfectly on Front Door
We had a roommate that had a poor habit of slamming the door all day, every day. After speaking to him about the issue, he copped an attitude rather than being willing to work on his behavior that bothered three other adults in the house. We installed this door closer as a last-ditch attempt to get some solid sleep. It worked perfectly. Our door is a metal door with white wooden frame around. We did end up hiring a professional to install this unit since we didn't want to leave a dozen holes in the walls, frame and door trying to get it positioned correctly. The door puller directions were easy to follow and he was able to get it installed in around 20 minutes. The puller does make the door slightly heavier to open, but we actually like that. It prevents the door from being able to be slammed and also pulls the door closed behind us when we enter. The 2nd dial adjusts the speed at which it finishes its close, and we made it very slow so that the last two inches of the door will be very gentle, preventing slamming. This was a very cost-effective solution to an incredibly frustrating issue. I highly recommend this unit and I will update the review if we ever come into trouble with it.

Effective but very difficult to open
Gets the job done. Easy to install and has all necessary hardware. The downside is the door is very hard to open (even after several adjustments). This could be practical for someone that doesn’t want small children to be able to open the door, but that’s about it.

Smooth, Reliable, and Adjustable – Great for Home or Business Use
I installed the FORTSTRONG Door Closer on a frequently used entry door in my home, and I’m really impressed by how well it performs for the price. It’s sturdy, adjustable fit, and gives a nice, quiet, smooth close every time—no more slamming or doors being left open. The installation instructions were clear, and it came with everything needed for surface mounting, including a detailed diagram. It’s UL listed and ADA compliant, which gave me extra confidence in its quality. I had it mounted and adjusted in under an hour, even without pro tools. This is a Grade 3 hydraulic closer, and it handles a standard residential interior or exterior door easily—but would also work well for a light commercial setting. The adjustable spring tension and sweep speed make it super versatile depending on your door weight and closing preference. The silver finish looks clean and professional, and the closer itself feels solid—not flimsy or lightweight like cheaper models I’ve tried before. If you're looking for a reliable, easy-to-install door closer for your home, office, or shop, this is a great value. I’ll definitely be grabbing another one for my garage entry.

Horrible Instructions
The manufacturer states that they listened and have improved the instructions including a video. I was floored when I got this and saw the instructions and watched the video. The video is VERY BASIC and sort of shows how to do it on one style of door. The included instructions are practically useless. I had to totally wing it to install on my door. I can tell you this with confidence as I just installed a different unit on a second door from Wright Products WC11 Light Duty Residential Hold Open Door Closer and it's instructions were so clear showing different installation style options I installed it it 10 minutes. I was amazed that this company did not take the time to look at some competitions instructions to improve theirs. I am more amazed that they advertise that they listened to their customers and have improved their instructions. If these are improved, I can't imagine what the prior instruction were like. The other disappointment was it does not have the hold door open feature which was important to me (my last unit did so I sortof assumed they all do). The Wright Brother unit does have the door hold open feature FYI.

Very impressed!
Needed this to complete a fire door installation in a recently built basement rental. It had o handle a 150 lbs door. Quick delivery, solid feel to all parts. My first impression was it appeared a bit 'small' to handle the heavier door, but this impression faded quickly once installed and adjusted. The instructions are ok, but a bit confusing with diagrams showing different mounting positions but instructions not to clear about them. It would have been nice to know that you cannot really screw in the arm without it being attached to the main unit. But small installation confusion aside, the unit handles the heavy door (on ball bearing hinges) like a champ. The initial settings were a bit too fast swinging and a bit to hard latching as well a few rounds of slowing down both via the screws gave the PERFECT for us results; the door has some expected resistance while opening but not too much for even the the weaker family members, it closes slowly enough to enable carrying long objects through without concern of the door closing in on them while walking through, the it latches softly and quietly EVERY time. Everybody in the house is very happy with this purchase. Would buy again!

Peut être pas adapter à mes besoins
Ferme peu faible, j'ai peut être mal choisie mais ça manque de force à la fermeture même avec l’ajustement au maximum.

Closure, finally
The old door closer kept needing adjustment, and wouldn't always trigger the "door closed" sensor for the alarm. This has fixed that nicely. I had this thing installed and adjusted in 20 minutes. Not sure what everyone else is doing where they end up with more holes than Swiss cheese. I just followed the template. I was actually surprised and delighted at how easy it was to install. The door is now adjusted so it closes slowly (so it doesn't smack you in the butt), but then the last 30° of travel speeds up and closes the door firmly every single time. I suggest that you check the specs of the closer against the type of door you're looking to apply it to before you order. Reading the reviews, it sounds like a bunch of people didn't do that first. I installed this to a reinforced steel entry door from my garage to the house. Works great for that application. If it's a light duty door, it's likely going to be too strong.
