Salon-style highlights at home — with a little patience!
used the L'Oréal Paris Préférence Balayage kit to add some dimension to my medium brown hair, and the results were surprisingly natural-looking! The kit includes everything you need — gloves, brush, lightener, and toner. The highlighting brush made it easier to apply in streaks, and I liked that it gave me more control than traditional box dye. It did take a little time and care to get even placement, so I recommend watching a tutorial if it’s your first time. The lightener lifted my hair 2–3 levels after about 35 minutes. The toning conditioner helped soften any brassiness, leaving the final result looking sun-kissed and blended. ✅ Pros: Natural-looking balayage effect Great for face-framing pieces Comes with toner to reduce brassiness Affordable alternative to salon ❌ Cons: Can be messy without sectioning clips Takes practice to get even results May not lift very dark hair enough without pre-lightening PS : Make sure you have a blue shampoo ready just in case it turns orangy on your hair. The blue shampoo will help tone down the orangy tint

Found it
This product is discontinued (whaaaa!!! 😢) and I am lucky to find it from a 3rd party seller and it arrived in great packaging. I will miss this product... I hope L'Oreal makes a similar Balayage.

It’s ok…
I really hate going to the salon, but my hair always looks better with a blended balayage, otherwise it’s kind of a blah light brown. My hair does get some dimension to it when I’m in the sun by adding natural blonder strands but I haven’t really been in the sun lately or I wear a hat. I just wanted to add some highlights to my hair to made it more dimensional and this product worked BUT it did leave my hair pretty brassy looking. Purple shampoo fixed it right up though and now it’s perfect. The dark toner included with the kit definitely blended everything out but it also made my roots dark, which was weird. I’m so glad I didn’t leave both the beach and toner on for longer - I left the bleach solution on for about 8 minutes and the toner on for about 5 minutes. Both were the perfect amount of time and it would have been a disaster if I had left it on longer because I could clearly see my hair getting lighter and lighter. Now it’s just like a sun kissed, glowy highlight that looks great! But omg do not leave this on for 25-40 min as the package suggests. You will end up with fried, yellow hair! After using this, wait a day or two and then use a purple shampoo to tone down the brass. Overall, this kit made it pretty simple but the tool for coating strands sucked. I honestly just separated strands and coated them (not fully so it wouldn’t be like one stark blonde strand) in quick sections and then, to make sure that it wouldn’t be dyed in ugly blonde patches, I ran a comb through my hair to distribute more naturally. That seemed to do the trick!

A little bird told me...
I am not new to coloring my own hair. I read and follow instructions every single time. Something went seriously wrong here, and my hair turned a lovely canary yellow. I lived this way for a week, using my purple shampoo hoping it would diminish the brassiness. It did not, and despite my better judgement, I re-colored with a medium brown (I'm naturally dishwater blond). This worked, and thankfully didn't ruin my hair, but still, I just wanted some highlights and now I have brown hair. Albeit grander than canary yellow! Wish you luck with this product. (I suggest any other L'Oreal product. That's the only brand for me, but NOT the Balayage.)

I Did Not Get Good Results From This Product
Perhaps I should have done something differently, but I did not like this product. It turned my hair orange. I used to buy Balayage form Clairol, but I haven't seen it anywhere in stores nor online in many months. Instead of trying this brand again, I have used Clairol Frost and Tip with good results.
