A fantastic knife, sharp and no rust. Blade width 1-3/4"
OK, so I was really worried about this Oaksware 6" Chef's Knife staying sharp and not rusting as had been mentioned in some of the reviews. Which, considering the low-cost investment, was kind of silly of me. After nearly two months of use, I am happy to report that there is no rust, no chipping (except one tinsy-tiny chiplet), and the knife is sharp. That said, I don't leave my knives out, especially not unwashed. They have their special place in the drawer, wrapped in cloth. When I'm done using this and my other chef's knife, I wash it and dry it completely to a polish. That's key, because that's how I know it is actually dry. Honestly, to me, that's just good knife hygiene. Microscopic food debris can be acidic and trap moisture along the edge, both doing very slow and steady, accumulative damage to the blade. Maybe the difference between an inexpensive knife and its fancy cousins is that the latter can take abuse with little consequence. But I don't mind babying my knives. In fact, I love doing it. This is one of my two kitchen babies. And nobody but me uses them. My spouse is a former chef, and they approve ;-) The other pro is that the handle is very nicely shaped for my size hand (size 6 in gloves). I didn't expect to like it, as I don't in my spouse's 8" chef's knife. Evidently, size matters. And, lastly, the weight is great at 2.7 oz., that's 5 oz's more than my other knife. CONS The only con is that the edges of the dull side of the knife could be a touch more rounded so they dig less into my skin when I grip the knife as I cut. But, hey, I'm not laying out the big buck here, so I am satisfied. 6-Month Update: Nothing new to report. Still babying the Oaksware with unabated enthusiasm. Still a super sharp knife edge. I sharpen it ever so glently with an old (and better) Wuesthof handheld sharpener. I've gotten used to the somewhat sharper edges. This has become my go-to knife for its superior edge. 10-Month update: Still as happy as ever, maybe more so. Still only that one tiny pit. Of course, I don't put knifes into the dishwasher, so there is that. Something I never mentioned is that, aside from this knife being wonderfully sharp, at 1-3/4", the blade is wider than other 6-inch chef's knives, and as wide as my spouse's 8-inch knife, which makes slicing quicker and easier. Looking at the picture with measurements, you'll see that this knife is wider than another 6-inch and as wide as anoter 8-inch. Sorry to be gushing so much, but it's a daily joy to be using my favorite knife. I came on here because I just ordered 2 backup knives, because it occurred to me that these could be eventually discontinued. Now, I'll just grin and tap the side of my head with my finger. Because, honestly, given the price point, I don't expect this knife to last 20 years and I'm thinking ahead.

Better Than I Expected
Honestly, for the price, this knife is really good! It came packaged really well with a double box! The blade is super sharp and cuts so easily. I tested it on a tomato ๐ :) and it sliced right through with no effort. Itโs also comfortable to hold and has a good weight to it. Really happy with it!

A great price on what seems like a high quality, durable knife.
This seems surprisingly high quality for the price. It's got a nice balance. I'm a big fan of shorter chef knife for a lot of use as it really gives the amount of rocking motion I like. This is curved nicely for that purpose. Bought this to have at home of a relative I visit often. I didn't want to spend $150 for the Lamson 6" chef I use at my home, since I knew it would only see use during my visits. I was really surprised by the quality. ADDED NOTE: After only moderate use and running through the dishwasher perhaps 6 or 8 times, one of the rivets is coming out. a bit Not ideal having the rough edge of a rivet protruding, though no sign the handle is coming apart... I assume the rivets are likely just decorative. I'm only deducting one star because this might be a problem that was caused by the dishwasher, and it does say to handwash only. Though a knife like this not having a wood handle, should be dishwasher friendly in my opinion. The knife does hold sharpness well and other than the rivet I've really enjoyed using it. Seems the listing for this product is now for an 8" version. The quality comments likely still apply.

Amaizing Design and Long Lasting Sharp Knives
Very impressed with all the OAKSWARE product line. Strong steel, very sharp and long lasting. Convenient Handles for all the styles. Perfect knife for the price. Pretty heavy, comparing to the other similar other brand knifes. Not for Dishwasher - heat may destroy the black Delrinยฎ on knife handles. Even though it says stainless steel, just make sure to vipe it dry after washing, before storing in the wood block, or drawer. Purchased all the pieces for the kitchen - 8", 6" Chief Knifes, Paring and Bird Beak. Be careful, don't challenge the sharpness! Looking forward also to buy the 7" Santoku, when it will be available on Amazon.

I'm not ashamed of owning this at all.
I'm not ashamed of this 6" chef's knife. The description is on the money and its the best value for the money. It is well made for a $10 knife and no one would suspect it costs so little. It is literally razor sharp out of the box and it shaves the hair off my arm with ease. Perhaps the edge may not keep as long as more expensive knives but it is high carbon stainless steel so it should perform just as well, and I can buy 3 of these compared to the highly rated $30-40 knives. Don't know about the the over $100 knives and am not worthy to own such finery. I only need working knives that can take abuse and be whipped back into shape. It has a heavy beefy handle and makes the knife's weight heavier than my trusty 8" Cuisinart chef's knife. It is generally a little too large for smaller hands, but my wife likes the larger handled knives because they are more comfortable for her arthritic hands. I like that is not wood and that makes it antibacterial. You won't be ashamed of this knife if someone asks to use it. And if they ruin it somehow you won't be angry. Its only a $10 knife. I'm glad I bought this.

Get one, or two. I did!
This knife is an unbelievable bargain for the price. It's well made and very sharp right out of the box. What surprised me thankfully is the quality of the steel and how well it retains its edge. It's not my everyday knife but I can't believe I haven't had to sharpen it yet and considering how much I've used it that is remarkable.
