Slimy Trails These gastropods are a common feature among British gardens, research suggesting around 200 slugs can be found per cubic metre. Both love wet conditions and so are often more active after rainfall and can be found hiding under planters and pots where soil and gravel may be damp. Snails tend to hibernate throughout winter so are less active in this season but slugs continue their habits in temperatures as low as 5 degrees, munching on veggies almost year-round. As nocturnal creatures that shy away from the sun, you’re more likely to spot them at night-time. A sure sign of either in your garden are their silvery trails and nibbled leaves. They don’t discriminate and consume young and decaying growth alike across vegetables, seedlings, and ornamental plants. Some slugs carry lungworm, which is a severe problem for dogs and can result in death. Plant Defence It’s recommended that a slug or snail will need to be moved at least 20 metres away from your garden to force them to become disorientated and lose their way back as their homing instincts cover short distances only. They can stretch up to 20 times their size to fit through small gaps so barriers must be continuous. Raking over soil and removing fallen leaves can expose slug eggs to birds for them to eat. Growing plants with hairy stems or strong-smelling scents, such as lavender or rosemary, which are unappealing will deter them. Heading out into the garden at night with a torch to manually remove these gastropods can be effective but highly time-consuming. Defenders have a range of products for easier management. Slugs Away The range of Slugs Away products from Defenders covers every angle of slug and snail protection. Every product is organic and biodegradable, suitable for use in areas frequented by pets or children. Use the Wool Mat with added growth benefits, such as weed suppressor, soil insulator and frost protector. Easy to apply, the mats come in two sizes and can be cut to size. The Plant Protection Guard creates a sturdy lip that can’t be traversed and the Barrier Tape and copper Band creates an uncomfortable surface for slugs and snails to travel over. Review: Works brilliantly - I filled these up with some cheap beer and two days later had about 20 slugs in each. They are not hugely solid and don't need to be. I have another set of slug traps and these are far superior. The other ones lids fall off all the time, meaning the beer evaporates. On these the lid is held firmly in place. Simple to use and effective. Review: Definitely works but could be better quality - This product certainly works. I filled it with beer and within a day many slugs had taken the bait. I looked at many similar products and chose this one for the design - you just have to take the top off to inspect the contents. The only downside is that it is made of very cheap and flimsy plastic - I'm not expecting them to last that long. However, I haven't found anything that is better quality so I will keep looking. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Brand | Defenders | | Colour | Green | | Item weight | 0.07 Kilograms | | Material | Plastic | | Product dimensions | 15.2L x 15.4W x 15.7H centimetres | | Style | Slug Trap | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Defenders - **Colour:** Green - **Style:** Slug Trap - **Material:** Plastic - **Product dimensions:** 15.2L x 15.4W x 15.7H centimetres - **Item weight:** 0.07 Kilograms - **Number of pieces:** 2 - **Is electric:** Yes - **Target species:** Snail - **EU Spare Part Availability Duration:** 1 Years ## Images ![Defenders STV090 Slugs Away Ready-Baited Trap – Twinpack, Green, Poison-Free Reusable Snail and Slug Trap, 15.7 cm*15.2 cm*15.4 cm - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61jKkDA5YZL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works brilliantly *by J***T on 10 June 2014* I filled these up with some cheap beer and two days later had about 20 slugs in each. They are not hugely solid and don't need to be. I have another set of slug traps and these are far superior. The other ones lids fall off all the time, meaning the beer evaporates. ### ⭐ These traps are flimsy, useless items. *by H***R on 26 May 2019* Utterly useless. Made of really thin, brittle plastic - one leaked all of the beer as I didn't see it was split. The tops have 3 push/pull connectors...only one had more than one connector that worked. There is no liner to lift out to empty. TBH you are better off with two plastic cups inside each other, with a brick over the top balanced on a few stones. Then you can easily remove one to empty it and then replace it at the same level. With these, you remove the container and the sides of the hole collapse so you have to dig it out again. Don't waste your money. ## Frequently Bought Together - Defenders STV090 Slugs Away Ready-Baited Trap – Twinpack, Green, Poison-Free Reusable Snail and Slug Trap, 15.7 cm*15.2 cm*15.4 cm - Defenders Slugs Away Barrier Gel – 650 ml, Protect Garden Plants From Slug and Snail Damage - Defenders Slugs Away Barrier Tape – 4 m, Copper, Natural Slug and Snail Deterrent Adhesive Tape, Bronze --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/49626607-defenders-stv090-slugs-away-ready-baited-trap-twinpack-green-poison](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/49626607-defenders-stv090-slugs-away-ready-baited-trap-twinpack-green-poison) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-11-07*
