Which internet database does this radio use? skytune? obsolete reciva? frontier? can anyone tell me if it will play conyers old time radio?

No, the answer is from someone like me that got screwed by Grace Digital. I had 4 excellent radios until Grace decided to make them obsolete. I will never buy another Grace product unless they GIVE me 4 radios to replace what they made usless!!!!

Does this radio plug-in or only work on batteries?

The IR1 Portable WiFi Internet Radio does not have a built-in battery. It can be powered by 4 AA batteries or via a USB cable. Best regards, LEMEGA customer service

How do I enter standby mode? Pressing the control knob either mutes or powers it off

That is exactly what it does, there is no 'standby' mode.
