Tried everywhere to be sure and get the entire collection, so many knock offs and incomplete sets available it was hard to know where to turn. Amazon had the answer, very reasonable price with free postage, I saved loads buying this item and it is fantastic. Guaranteed all episodes from first to last including all the specials. This arrived quickly and well packaged, I am extremely pleased with this fantastically funny collection, Dawn French and the entire cast are great, a real watch again series of wonderful programmes, highly recommended and well worth the money. The Vicar of Dibley is a household name and most of us are well aware of the happenings in the vicarge of Dibley. It is often hilarious, but never nasty and always with a BIG heart. It leaves you watching with a smile all the time and you leave in good humour. At the end of each episode, following the closing credits, Geraldine tells a joke to Alice -- most of the time, the joke is rather off-colour. Alice usually doesn't get the joke, but instead tries to interpret it literally and then explains to Geraldine why the premise is implausible. Hilarious! The Vicar of Dibley is set in a fictional small Oxfordshire village called Dibley, which is assigned a female vicar following the 1992 changes in the Church of England that permitted female vicars. Geraldine Granger - Dawn French - is the female vicar. She is a bonne vivante and a large, liberal woman who enjoys nothing more than a good laugh. Despite her fun-loving and sometimes outrageous behaviour, she is deeply caring and does her best to help those in her parish in any way she can. In short, pure entertainment and entertainment as it should be.

Item bought used from we buy books, advertised in good condition. Wasn't expecting much for what i paid, but was in excellent order and am very pleased. All discs in good order and play o.k. Looking forward to watching the vicar of Dibley again after all these years, it was so good. Very pleased with seller.

Have had this for ages and it never tires me. From life in a middle England village to the goings on of a somewhat strange church committee this has to be one of the best ever sitcoms to grace the screens. It is worth getting the box set to see how the series started and how relationships develop over time. Dawn French is at her best (jumping in the puddle is a classic) but also my praise to Emma Chambers who plays Alice Tinker needs to be singled out. To play a stupid part you need to be able to act first and this girl certainly can. The after credit jokes are legendary!

I ordered this by mistake just found the original new one I'd bought ages ago it's a good series and I probably know someone who would like it I will watch it again its great

I purchased this collection for my better half, who is a big fan. I didn't consider myself a fan. In fact I usually tried to avoid watching it when it was on TV. However for a few evenings when there was nothing on TV we decided to put "The Vicar of Dibley" on. Since I had bought the boxset I thought I'd better watch a few episodes anyway. Anything for a quiet life!To my surprise I found myself really enjoying it. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, even if you can see most of them coming a mile off. The "Vicar of Dibley" is not edgy or groundbreaking. It is from the tradition of broad British humour, full of ridiculous situations, puns and double entendres. It gently pokes fun at the upper classes and the establishment. The characters are one-dimensional and in general don't change at all. However the comedic situations are so well written and acted that even the most cynical will be laughing. Dawn French is brilliant as the trendy but lonely vicar. Even though she gently mocks her parishioners you cannot help but wish her the best. The supporting cast including Gary Waldhorn and Roger Lloyd Pack all experienced comic actors and relish their roles. Particular mention must go to Emma Chambers who plays the really, really thick Alice. She gets the most memorable lines. The "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" speech is a particular highlight. The writing, by the likes of Richard Curtis is also spot on, creating the unique world of Dibley, with its own logic and conventions. This boxset contains all the series and the specials. You can buy it as a present for a real fan but you might end up secretly really enjoying it like me.

As other reviews have pointed out some of the Comic Relief specials aren't on this collection, but I don't think that's too important. The specials were anything but, being basically just short skits where the cast gather to deliver their catchphrases, and like anything connected with Comic Relief they work best in the context of that show. On the other hand this collection has the far more worthwhile compensation of having some slightly extended versions. Like most dvds there were clearly some sequences that faced music copyright issues such as the scene where everyone sings a Disney song, which has been heavily edited. So to keep up the length of the episodes that suffer, they have added in other scenes that weren't shown originally on tv. As a long time Dibley fan I've watched all the episodes many times from the recording I'd made off the tv, and so seeing short new bits that extend scenes was very welcome, especially as they all contain good jokes that were worth showing along with better explanations of plots. For instance, Alice's unexpected outburst in the second season episode where Geraldine is preparing a party for her is particularly memorable and goes on to set up the disaster of the party better than the original tightly edited version. As regards the episodes, watching them all together brings home just how funny they are. It's easy to view it as a more good-natured version of Blackadder with female leads. Certainly Alice is as funny as Baldric and Geraldine is as memorable as a creation as Blackadder. The rest of the ensemble cast work well together with the pompous David, the stupid Hugo, the dithering Jim, the bluff Owen and the boring Frank. To some extent it runs out of steam in the later episodes but even so it can always be relied upon to provide a regular supply of laughs.

Complete set of all aired to TV episodes. First series is the best, after that it just gets silly and a little predictable, but not in a bad way, the rest just don't have something that makes the first series so enjoyable. All the specials are included so no need to order anything extra even though suggestions are made to buy 2 other items along with this set. That's a scam that amazon should be ashamed of but I guess that is how the company makes so much in profits. Very funny collection to watch after not seeing it for a while.

Buying the complete "The Vicar of Dibley: The Immaculate Collection" is really the best way to purchase these great DVD's as this collection not only includes all the episodes, but also the special features of the behind the scenes, interviews, bios, etc. We stumbled upon the series and were so pleased to watch them in sequental order, as the story evolves, the characters build, the years go by, and then the finale. The only downside to the series is that once you start watching one, it is really difficult to not say - ah just one more, and before you know it, it is 3 am on a work day. The humour is hilarious, and the cast is so very talented, a real jewel of a collection. Just wish that there were more :) Highly recommend, in spite of its addictive qualities.

I bought this Immaculate Conception set. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. Rarely have I so enjoyed watching DVDs that I have bought. It was a great chance to re-experience this original, funny series, and see all the shows in succession and watch how the characters were fleshed out and became even funnier as the years passed. Every actor in this series is an accomplished and apparently highly respected actor. I guess that's why it was such a successful series. And Dawn French is one of a kind. There were tidbits of comments by the director and creator and others, but I would've liked more of that. The bios of the actors were very interesting...I had no idea of the histories of some of the actors (since they're British). I thoroughly enjoyed every DVD in this set. But I think this series was on for more years than are in this set? If so, I wonder if they are going to sell the remaining shows in a DVD set? Or is this complete? Reason I ask is that there is a 10th Year Anniversary DVD, but there aren't 10 series in this set. Only three. ??? I highly recommend this set for those who love this series.
