There are no traditional sizes indicated on the 3 War-gamer brushes. Only usage is indicated which is very helpful as follows. The "Insane Detail" Brush is about a "00" Winsor Newton Series 7. The "Small Dry" brush is cut on a angle for broad detail work. The "Regiment" is abut the size of a #1 or #2 brush. **Q: Whats the difference between this and the Starter Set (the 3 red brushes)?** A: The wargame set of brushes (this set) has slightly longer bristles than the starter hobby set. For miniatures the longer bristle size is helpful picking out fine details. This set also has an angled drybrush, as opposed to a flat dry brush. **Q: are these good for base and layering?** A: These are great for basing and layering. They hold their shape well and lay down a smooth coat of color. Treat them well and keep them clean and they should last a good long time too. The paints you use may make a difference, but I’ve used Citadel, P3, Reaper, Vallejo, & Army Painter and they all did well. **Q: How do these compare to the old citidal brushes nit new ones?** A: Never had Citadel so cannot compare. But the insane detail brush is rubbish the bristles are to short and there are not enough of them, so paint dries on it stupidly fast. Word of warning you'll need brush soap otherwise these brushes won't last long. I used them for a week or so and the tip was going on the main brush. A bit of soap and it's almost as good as new.
