Does anybody now how to actually make this thing start

This gravel cleaner is a really poor design, I rang the company and did exactly as instructed but still could not get it to work consistently without sucking on the tube to start the water flow. The force needed to move the tube rapidly up and down to start the water flow is impossible to generate in a small or shallow tank without making a mess of your tank, the situation is even worse if you have a planted tank with little 'open water'.

this is a bit of a silly question, but could this suck the water up as well as cleaning the gravel? for when i'm doing a water change?

what size gravel cleaner for 64 litre aquarium

To be honest I usually go for a smallish size gravel vac regardless of the size of my tank because the smaller the vac the easier you can maintain the little nooks and crannies around the tank especially if you have a planted aquarium as I do,yes a larger vac makes it easier per-sè but it can’t get into small gaps etc plus it drains your tank water out much quicker (usually before you’re done vacuuming the gravel),I like to do a thorough job so for me it’s small/medium every time

will this fit on end of a hose pipe

I connect mine to the hose with hoselock connectors.
