Easy & Safe Sharps Disposal
Perfect solution for safely disposing of sharps. I was originally given one of these by my vets office to try out. Previous to being introduced to this wonderful device we collected used syringes in a big container and took them to the vet who had them safely disposed of by incineration. This device is used to clip the needle off and then the syringe can be safely disposed of in the regular trash. Saves time and space having to collect and transport used syringes. Also offers peace of mind that no visitors (especially the little ones that can seem to open anything even if its supposed to be child proof) will inadvertently harm themselves. The device itself is easy to use, just to squeeze the side grips to open the BD Safe Clip device. With the device in open position, fully insert needle. Then push down on thumb depression to clip needle. When you press down to clip the needle the device closes and locks. Clipped needle is safely retained within device. Discard remains of syringe (or pen needle) in trash (This is in accordance with PA regulations, regulations in your state may be different). BD states the device will hold up to 1,500 clipped needles, this will vary with the size and gauge of the needle being clipped. I use a very short and fine syringe for my dog and have yet to fill this device after daily (2x a day use) for over 2 years. A few times I thought it was full but after shaking the device gently to rearrange to collected needles inside we were back in business! So if you have trouble inserting the needle first make sure the device is open by squeezing the side grips ( little lever with thumb depression pops up) and if it is up try giving the device little shake to redistribute the contents. I purchased a backup for myself and one for my mother. Note: this device is designed to be used with insulin syringes, but I also use this to clip the needle from lancets. I have seen others say they cannot use it to clip lancet needles but it works fine for me. As far as disposing of the the filled device BD site says to check with your community for regulations. BD also has a new program listed on their website for disposing of the safe clip by mail but as of today no information on how to set this up. I will be calling customer service and will update my review if I get further information about this program

This is for anyone who uses any Injectable medications for humans or pets.
My husband is a diabetic and uses several pen tips and syringes for his insulin daily. It is the responsibility of a needle user to make sure that their needles are disposed of properly. It is not ok to be careless and just toss needles out in the garbage. After many years of bulky red sharps containers and carrying used needles home to dispose of them we came across this Safe-Clip Needle Clipper and storage device. We bought 3 of these and keep one in the house and car and carry one in the purse or briefcase when on the go. PROS: Easy to use Clips needles without too much pressure on the hands. After clipping needle the tip is safely contained inside the storage device, allowing you to safely throw the syringe or pen tip in the trash. Compact and portable. Can store 1,500 needles, which is over a years worth. Can be used for 28 gauge through 32 gauge needles and 4mm through 12.7mm length needles. Well priced at the time of this review. CONS: Not designed for use with Lancets. This is a great product for not only Diabetics Insulin, but for anyone who uses any injectable medications for either humans or pets. Very happy with this purchase and I highly recommend this product.

Safely dispose of needles without filling a sharps container!
My dog was newly diagnosed with diabetes and needed to have twice daily insulin injections. The vet tech at my awesome vet's office told me and pulled one out of her pocket to show me what it was and how it worked and I was sold. Easily snips your needles and works just like nail clippers. Unfortunately with the current drug epidemic everywhere, safely disposing of syringes is a priority and one should never just toss them in the trash unaltered, for this and other safely reasons. This solution takes care of that without me having to worry if they're going to poke a Sanitation worker, some kid in a playground (from junkies finding and re-using and just dumping) or other unpleasant situation. This takes care of putting the whole syringe in a sharps container, (thus filling it faster) and not having to send it in or take to the hospital to be emptied. This will safely contain 1000's of needles so you're not endlessly empting. Bottom line: safety, ease of use and saves time and money. If you're using syringes, you need this!

This thing is AWESOME.
We used to use bulky sharps containers for our used insulin syringes, but those fill up fast at 2 needles per day, 365 days a year. This device allows you to super easily "clip" the needle off of the syringe, making the syringe itself (without the needle) acceptable for normal trash. I actually bought two of these because they were really well priced, but I've been using the first one for over 14 months now, and it still works just as easy as day one. There is not a ton of gripping force required to cut that needle end off; it's very easy, and when the unit snaps the needle end off, it locks into place in a closed position. Next time you want to use it, you just squeeze the sides of the unit, and it pops open, ready for the next needle. I only regret that I cannot give this six stars; it's one of those purchases that I would absolutely make again with no hesitation whatsoever.

Works really slick.............
I use the "pen" style syringe that uses the ultra fine 8mm 31G needles. I have been "recapping " the needles before disposing them. I saw this and decided this was a safer way to do things. The box reads "this device can be used with: "28G to 32G diameter needles and 5/32 ( 4mm) thru 1/2" (12.7mm) in length." It also reads " NOT INTENDED FOR USE WITH LANCETS" You squeeze the sides and the lever pops up. You insert the needle into the hole, press down and it clips off the needle inside the sealed container. It's as simple as using fingernail clippers. You can press down on the clipper end after you're done and it will snap flat for traveling or storage. Some reviews mentioned hearing a rattling sound. I shook mine and did NOT hear any such sound. The clipper is smooth and sharp. No effort needed to cut the needle. I just wish there was a device that can cut the BOTTOM off the pen needles without having to handle the threaded part of the pen needle.

Very useful
If there is a need, someone will invent a product to fulfill it. No longer do I have to set the pen needle down on the sink and then pick it back up to put it in a sharps container, all the while risking being stuck. My wife and I are going on a cruise in the near future and this is going to take up far less space in my luggage than the container. I highly recommend this to anyone who uses syringes and needles. It produces a needle stub that can be safely handled and disposed of in any trash can and keeps the dangerous part in the handle of the clipper. The price was a big plus too. Update: Nearly two years after purchasing this item, it finally filled up. I inject insulin once a day so it holds at least six or seven hundred needles. I quickly ordered a replacement which just arrived. Again, I highly recommend this as vastly superior to the standard sharps container.
