Sage by Heston Blumenthal The Adjusta Grill and Press, 2200 Watt

We had a typical 2-sandwich toastie machine that died a death recently and this is our replacement. Chosen to enable us to include paninis in our toastie repertoire, we didn't actually plan on using it for anything but sandwiches. In fact, so far, we have used it to 'dry fry' several things successfully (however my main angle is still sandwich-toasting...). It is bulky (but that means that you can toast 4 rounds of toasted sandwiches at the same time (entire family happy). It heats up extremely quickly and toasts a sandwich in around 5 minutes. There are loads of height settings enabling you to alter the pressure, 'squish' applied to your sandwich so you could do a multi-decker or a skinny sliced-bread version equally efficiently. It is so easy to wipe clean: simple washing up liquid/water is all I've used so far (owned it for several months). When opening it fully, the lid handle only just clears the bottom edge of my wall cabinets above; you will need about 47cm clearance to swing it fully open or, alternatively, a different worktop area with no overhead obstacles. I have to counterbalance some of the previous negative reviewers: The build quality of my machine is, like all Sage products, exceptional. The little slotted scraper fits the grooves perfectly; it isn't designed to be used perpendicular to the surface, you need to insert it at an angle which allows you to apply extra pressure to the ridges, scraping them perfectly clean... Don't hesitate to buy this machine provided you have a decent-sized storage space for it...

This is a great countertop press/grill. I've been searching for a replacement for my Australian Breville press for some time, turns out Breville in the UK is an entirely different brand and Sage is the name used here. It heats up quickly, nice large cooking surface, good nonstick grills and easy to clean. My only gripe is that the top plate is a 'grill' instead of a flat surface so you can't get a truly flat press for things like bacon, but otherwise its excellent!

Excellent grill, well made, heats up quickly. Used for bacon and toasted panini sandwhiches so far - no issues, cooks well, easy to clean. Stores upright. With the adjustable floating top grill, in my opinion, more versatile than some other grills and a reasonable cooking area. Would recommend.

This Sage grill is an excellent product, just the right size and works beautifully. I have only given it 4 stars because the cleaning tool supplied does not fit the machine The pitch of the teeth is completely different to the width of the grooves on the top plate so is useless for scraping off burnt bits. Can only guess the tool was designed for a different model, so why supply it ? Still an excellent grill though.

I can't praise this grill enough. It heats up quickly, is easy to use and produces excellent results. I have tried it with fish (both salmon fillets and sardines), steaks, burgers, sausages, bratwurst and panini. Everything cooked perfectly. I would warn prospective buyers to check the dimensions, it is rather large and bulky, so needs a large area to work with and a large cupboard to store it in! This is only an observation, not a problem in my view. Happy cooking...

I bought this product on April 2018 and worked brilliantly for 1 year and 5 months only. Then the bottom hot plate stopped working and only the top plate was heating up. Since warranty only covers the appliance for 1 year, I contacted the local supplier of Sage products to get my Adjusta Grill fixed against a payment, after two weeks I was told that the item cannot be fixed as the heating element is broken and Sage do not supply parts for it. So basically I picked the grill up and not has thrown away. Not worth it's price, might as well buy a much cheaper grill if their life span is so short. Such a pity I had high hopes for Sage products and would definitely not buy anything else from the brand considering their prices. I always had the perception that a better price would equal better quality, but not in this case. Quality was only for 1 year 5 months, item not even fixable. Very very disappointed.

Quite heavy but stores away neatly. Just love how non stick it is and it's so very easy to clean. It cooks all food amazingly and the attachable drip tray means there's no mess. I used to have a George Foreman but never again this is twice as good.

Waited until I had used it 6 times before writing a review. The first time it was used the locking mechanism stuck and was only freed when a bit broke off it. After 4 uses the spindle that the lid pivots on became loose and was bent. I have tightened this up but it is still out of line with the rest of the machine. I tried a toasted sandwich (with the correct heat setting) but the outside of the bread burnt very quickly but the inside was still uncooked. With the 6th usage it just packed up altogether in the middle of cooking 2 steaks which ended up being broiled before I noticed that it had stopped working. Still not working so going back.
