Grounded!!! This phone did its job!
I bought this flip phone as a punishment for my teenage daughter because her grades were not good. I didn't want her to be unable to get ahold of me while she was grounded from her smartphone, so I got her this flip phone. She hated not having her beloved smartphone so much that she brought her grades up just to get it back. I set out to find the simplest, most durable phone for my girl while she improved her grades and I found just that. It does have texting features, but you really have to work for the messages (MDC). The screen size is not the biggest, you can lock the phone, and it has internet (it's not the most convenient -which should be fine if you don’t plan to use internet much on your phone). If you're looking to buy this phone for its simplicity, then you've found the one. I love that I can just pop her SIM card in there anytime she's grounded or I feel like she's spending too much time on her phone. Such a basic phone! But it did exactly what I wanted it to… I should also mention the color we picked was pretty accurate. Oh! And I guess I should also mention that my daughter did get sick of the flip phone and worked very hard to earn her phone back! Lol

Don't even think about it . . .
I have put off this review because this is the worst phone in the world. We should break all trade relations with China. The clock inside and the one outside may tell different times until you close and reopen. The operating system was designed by a demon possesed engineer, I recommend wrapping the phone in duct tape and writing the phone numbers on that, as if you are an older person you won't live long enough to enter phone numbers on the "KaiOS" operating system or whatever they call it. Older phones defaulted back to start menu when you closed the phone, but this crap-wad "saves" where you were (even if it's 10 levels deep) so when you next open your phone you have to backspace 10 times to get to the start menu. Though it is set to display the names of callers who are in my contact list, it rarely does. Sometimes I see a name displayed, but usually it just displays a number. The microphone hole is actually "down between" the "0" key and the "#" key, so if you hold it with your chin, you somehow speak "past" the microphone or "over" the microphone, but not "into" the microphone, so the person you are talking to can not hear you. Also the distance between the microphone and the speaker is too great for your head (no matter who you are). If you hold the phone so you speak straight into the microphone and can be heard, your ear is below the speaker hole, and you can't hear well. Most times there is ZERO warning when battery is low and phone just shuts off. Don't think you can plug it in and briefly call your friend back to finish the conversation, because when it shuts off, the battery is SO DEAD that it takes 10 minutes or so to get enough charge that the phone can be rebooted. It takes 3 or 4 button presses to delete a text message. In fairness, the hinge seems fairly durable. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK - REPEAT !! DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK. Just email anyone you need to communicate with. I can list 20 more horrible things about this worthless phone, but my fingers are getting tired of typing. Although the physical hardware of the phone is JUNK, I don't want you to misunderstand that the physical phone is the only problem; it is the operating system whose designer should be terminated. Buying a different phone with the same "KaiOS" would be equally stupid with buying this model. I JUST BEG YOU NOT TO BUY THIS PHONE. If anyone, even one person buys one, this demon infested company may remain in business, and the only way to put the world aright is to run these charletans out of business. PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER BUYING ONE OF THESE HORRIBLE PHONES. !! P L E A S E !! - Leon S

2nd Nokia 2780 Flip & I have no regrets !
This is my second Nokia 2780 Flip, I originally bought my first one directly from HMD website, unlocked. My reasons for purchasing a "dumb phone" were to overcome my screen addiction, have better mental health, and feel more present, detached from a digital world that is constantly pulling you out of your life and into the device. It works great, Google Maps function is simple to use and allows you to navigate the map in real time if you'd like to travel and look at the map to make sure you are going the right way in real time. Photos feel nostalgic and are enjoyable to take. Simple games in case you get bored or catch the intrigue of a young child that has never seen a flip phone before. My first Nokia 2780 Flip lasted one year, I suspect due to how much I allowed it to fall on the floor. A "No command" screen started showing up and did not allow me to reboot. I ordered a phone case for this 2nd one that I ordered directly from Amazon. Would have liked the red color, but it's double the price at the moment on Amazon and I needed a phone urgently after my first phone broke down. I have tried another dumb phone, the Nokia 3210 Dual Sim, which is great to use and also enjoyable, but does not have GPS features, which makes it less convenient for my everyday use.

Good for a flip phone
After trying to find a modern day flip phone, I'd say this is about as close to the old style phones as I've been able to get. I'm talking about quality wise. The old ones I had were built like tanks but it seems like none of the companies want to sink that effort into the new ones. I guess this one is close. It runs on KaiOS so you do get a few more app type options which I really didn't care about. If I still wanted apps, I would've stuck with my smart phone. Apps on this thing are just mobile Firefox web pages and they're flaky, don't work well with scrolling or clicking so don't expect much. Even email isn't going to impress anybody on KaiOS. You might as well only set up one account cause that's all you can use at one time anyway. If you want notifications from a different email account, you have to physically switch over to that account. Luckily, again, I wasn't looking for email features. Texting is the painful T-9 again which, due to the addition of all phones using the number 1 for voicemail, throws all the letters off by one, so any old muscle memory training you had from years ago is going to get screwed up. You have to retrain yourself on T-9 again. Fortunately, this phone has nice big keys so it has been easier than a couple of other flip phones I've tried. BUT, the biggest bonus with this phone as for texting has to be the voice input, which is actually fairly decent. I was impressed with how accurate and easy, easier than using the T-9 input, to enter quick texts. I'd recommend trying and using that feature as it will save you lots of grief trying to type. Ultimately, it's still a quality thing for me and this phone doesn't quite meet the same standards as my old flip phones. It's noticeably very plastic and also quite slippery in the hand. I'd strongly recommend getting the textured form fitting case at the same time or chances are good the thing is going to slide out of your hand. The battery length is probably it's best feature as it lasts a good 2-3 days depending on use. I never have to worry about charging it in the car as I can throw it on the charger at home for an hour or two and it's full again and ready for another couple of days. The blue color I ordered does not look like the pictures at all. It's more of a turquoise blue-green which I can't stand. I would've ordered the red had I known but I don't know if that would've looked like the pics or been more orange-red so unless you can physically see one, it's a gamble. Thankfully I ordered the textured case in black so it pretty much covers all of the ugly color of the phone anyway. I had been using the Nokia 8810 banana phone prior to this one and thankfully, the 2760 has far more processing power so you can actually do stuff without totally bogging the thing down like I found on the 8810. There is some bugs with the use of an sd card as well. I got mine all ready from my computer, and while the phone can see it and browse the files, it can't find any music files so I also can't change any ring tones. People on forums have said they have had some luck formatting the card on the phone itself but still run into problems when they try to hook the card back up to their PC to add music, etc. as the computer wants to reformat it again so it's a viscous circle. I didn't care enough about ring tones and music to bother fighting with this so I just left it as is for now. Overall, if you are looking for a modern flip phone that is somewhat close to old school quality and don't care about apps or anything other than having something for making calls and short texts, this is about the best I've found for a reasonable price. If Nokia, or some company, would offer a updated version of almost any old flip phone as far as build quality, I really think they would have a good size market of users who are wanting to get rid of a lot of their tech and go old school like me.

Great old school phone suitable chiefly for calls and text messages.
If you are looking for an old school phone, primarily for phone calls and text messages, then you have made a great choice. I tried it on an European carrier and on T-Mobile and I was able to test text and phone calls without problems. The ring is also great as it features 15 volume scale, the highest suitable for when you place it in pocket or purse. Vibration also works well. Pictures are not of great quality as resolution is quite mediocre. In the end, this is to be expected since, back in time phones like these had similar characteristics. As far as internet (wifi included), I have tested it and it is not great, because you have to use the middle key (the largest one on the keypad) to move the cursor and browse, which, as the many perceptive of you may understand, is not practical, making the browsing experience lengthy. The goal is to have a phone without those features at all.

Might be good for someone, but not right for me
For the last six months, I've been using a Nokia 2720 V as my daily driver. I was intrigued with the idea of the 2780 for three reasons: better group texting, a slightly better camera, and a hotspot. This phone is unlocked and works on mulitiple networks. I use Verizon and sure enough, it worked great. However, each carrier can determine which features are available, and which ones...are not. The hotspot appears to be disabled via Verizon. I'm aware of a work-around available online, but I don't want to mess with a work-around, I just want it to work. Strike one. The 5MP camera should be a clear upgrade from my 2MP camera. But it really wasn't. To be honest, 2MP, 5 MP - neither are getting used to take pictures of anything important. This one is a wash. I'll come back to the third point shortly. The phone itself felt, well, cheap. The plastic casing seemed like a toy you'd find at Five Below. My 2720 V came out in 2021 and it's much nicer, so I know Nokia can deliver. Because the plastic is low quality, the hinge suffers too. At this point, my confidence is shaken, and my 2720 V is looking at me, wondering why I gave up on it when it's clearly the better option. So after all of that, the fact that I have to perform one extra step to group text on the 2720 V seemed less important. To conclude, it's an OK phone. Three stars. I'm sending mine back, but if you want a decent feature phone with some Google tech, but not a full blown smartphone, check it out.

Pretty awesome as a "detox" phone
I got this as kind of a detox phone and I really like it!! It seems durable, it is easy to pop the back cover on and off to access the battery, SIM, and SD card reader, and it feels nice in the hand. The camera isn't really something you're gonna want to take all your pictures with but I took a picture and sent it to a friend and he mentioned how flip phone cameras have come a long way so I guess it's decent enough for quick pictures. The phone is fast enough. Doesn't hold a candle to my Galaxy S25 Ultra (of course not lol) but gets the job done. Texting is fine, call quality is great. I found a really nice podcast app (PodLP) to round out the music player and FM radio functions for entertainment. Snake is a ton of fun, too. I don't need to use Google Maps, browser, etc. but it's nice that they exist. A friend texted me a twitter link and I was able to load it up and it was fine. Google Maps worked correctly and quickly when I tested it but I have built-in nav in my car so I haven't had a legit use case for it. All in all, it's a dumbphone with smart enough features and enough entertainment apps to not feel a total void the way you might with something like a TCL Classic. Battery life is spectacular, build quality is good, the interface and KaiOS are super easy to learn and navigate, and it is good enough at everything to where you don't feel too bad ditching your smartphone.

Unfit for purpose
This isn't really a basic "feature" phone. KaiOS is a stripped down version of Android running on a little processor that isn't capable of keeping up with the demands of Android bloat. For example, open the phone, and in big numerals it will show you the time _that you last opened the phone_. It may take up to a minute to update and show the actual time. (You can train yourself you read the actual time on the tiny status bar.) Sending a text message? Type slowly because it won't keep up. (And good luck finding basic punctuation marks like the apostrophe or capitalizing a name in the middle of a sentence. And your preferences for which text typing mode you like are constantly being reset to bad defaults.) The UI is unnecessarily cumbersome. If you receive a spam text (aren't they all?), you're going to have to press a lot of buttons several times to delete it. I don't have a data plan because all I need is the occasional call and even rarer SMS message. But if this phone ever gets access to data for even a moment, it starts trying to update. And when that data is interrupted, your notifications will be spammed with a slew of error messages. And, sometimes, that leaves key apps, like your contact list, inaccessible. The beauty of Type C USB connectors is that you can insert them either way. However, if your charger and cable support PD (Power Delivery) and/or QC (Quick Charge), the phone will charge only when the cable is plugged in the "right" way. If you leave it overnight on a charger with the cable the wrong way around, you'll wake up to a dead battery. From what I've read, you have to go out of your way to design a Type C USB port that isn't symmetric. But why would you do that? (And the battery life is terrible compared to previous feature phones I've had. Putting Android under the hood may have been an expedient way to create KaiOS, but you can't throw that at a low power processor and expect it not to burn through the battery.) Oh, I almost forgot about Bluetooth. This phone fails to pair with my car. My car thinks the pairing is successful, but the phone does not. This phone does pair with my wife's car, but not mine. Every other phone I've used was able to pair with both cars. I don't have a great need for a cell phone (coverage at home is spotty at best), so I haven't gone looking for an alternative. Yesterday, however, the phone died, a just few days short of 10 months of very light usage. Outer screen won't light up. Inner screen is filled with random pixel values. If I call it, it doesn't even ring, so it's not _just_ a display failure. This device doesn't reach even the most minimal requirements of a cell phone. If Nokia still cared one iota about its brand name, it never would have authorized this disaster. It's actually worse that the Kazuna eTalk, which I wouldn't have imagined was possible. This is not fit to be called a phone.

No Whatsapp and Facebook Apps
Bought this for my mom but had to return because there’s no Whatsapp and Facebook app which we wanted to use to chat and data call her. Overall a very good phone for senior people but only for calls and texts.

Not compatible with the UK
The phone works with calls and texts but does not work with mobile data on EE. Why are you selling a phone on Amazon UK that is not compatible with UK networks?
