Toy box arrived in good condition. I bought a discounted one with damaged packaging for a lower price. Package was indeed damaged but the actual toy box was in great shape. It took my husband about a half hour to put it together. It was easy and required minimal tools. The espresso color is very pretty and looks nice in our living room. The hinged lid works well. My two year old can lift the lid and it will stay up while she finds her toys. It was smaller than I expected but hold a lot of stuff and we were able to fit all of her toys in there with some room to spare. Overall we are happy with our purchase. It looks nice. It it real wood. Not thick wood mind you but nicer and more resilient than plywood. We would recommend this to others.

This is an nice toy box, it goes together fairly easily and looks good. some are showing screws stripping or splitting wood, they are either tightening them too tight or are tightening each screw as they put it in, whenever assembling anything never tighten screws all the way until you get the rest lined up and started, then go back and tighten the screws evenly, so as not to put strain on the wood. Product as described. Shipped fast and arrived in good shape. I would buy again.

My kid loves opening and closing this toy chest. I was expecting the safety hinges to be slow closing, but they're actually locking hinges that hold the lid in position after moving it. This was a very pleasant surprise and makes it much easier for my 18 month old to be able to reach in and out at his leisure. Only a couple gripes. Attaching the safety hinges felt like it was way more difficult than it should be, having to hold the lid at a precise angle to align the holes and then awkwardly tighten them far enough so they don't rip out (one did for me) when trying to position it better to finish tightening more comfortably. Also because of the very sturdy safety hinges, the lid doesn't sit against the base when you close it all the way. This created some rather annoying knocking sounds whenever you would touch the lid in the "closed" position. I solved this problem by adding some velcro strips to the contact points on either side of the hand safety gap and now there's no more knocking because of the added padding, and the lid stays shut when you close it (mostly). Lastly, as others have noted, the floor of the chest is in pretty deep for a young child to reach and it feels fairly flimsy for the volume of toys (and potentially a mischievous child) it is expected to hold. We added some pillows at the bottom to effectively raise the floor and so far it hasn't had an actual problem with the floor, but we haven't been putting much heavy things in there as of yet, and probably never will because I just cant trust that floor. All in all an excellent little toy chest.

I assemble a LOT of furniture and I was pretty happy with this toy chest until it came to putting the lid supports on. It cracked!! I did -not- over tighten the screws. Like I said, I assemble a lot of furniture, I know what I’m doing. It started cracking as soon as I started screwing it in. Too far along in assembly to disassemble and send back. Annoying. The lid also does not close all the way. I don’t know what that’s about, but I hate it. I can push it closed but it won’t stay closed, it pops right back up. Aside, If you’re having trouble aligning the holes for the lid, as a tip I recommend using two of the styrofoam packing pieces to lift the chest off the floor. My daughter is only a year old so I guess we’ll see how it holds up, but I’m pretty disappointed with the quality. I love Melissa and Doug products, and I’m usually so happy with them. But this chest just isn’t worth the price. I would have expected to maybe pay $60 for this, not $150+. Maybe I missed this note somewhere as well, but the lid cannot be used as a bench for an adult. I can press in the center with my hand and feel it give way a little bit, so I don’t recommend trying it.

The product arrived on time and was packaged well. Although the box had some damage to it, there was no damage to the pieces of the toy chest at all. Instructions for assembly were easy to follow and I was able to complete it by myself, but it does take some time to put together. I did check some online photos to ensure that I put the lid supports on correctly and they work fine. The chest looks great and it is sturdy enough that I don't worry when people sit on it or when my grandson stands on it. However I would not recommend putting too much weight on the inside the chest since the bottom is a piece of manufactured board that is held in by grooves on all sides. It is fine for most toys though. The only issue I have is that the lid does not close completely, leaving about a 1/8th of an inch gap on each side. This may go away later thru wear, but I will probably install some small rubber pads on the underside of the lid to keep it from making a loud "thud" every time my cat jumps on it. I still highly recommend this toy chest!

It was actually relatively easy to put together, not a bunch of parts, really just the chest and lid and the bar on top. It is quite sturdy and has done great even with my son and cats climbing all over it. My son has a whole bunch of toys from grandma so we needed a toy chest. It's fit all of them in there save for some more bulky toys like his trucks. That said, there is a lot of space, he just has a lot of toys. Cats also approve of the sleeping spot on the lid.

This toy box is well made and easy to install for the most part. The hinges were a little difficult to deal with but worked out fine.

Its beautiful, elegant and sturdy... Plus it's nice and big inside.
