Essential Reading
This is one of those few perspective-changing books that you come across. I have been interested in weight-training, cardio activities and sports nutrition for a number of years, in the hope that I will improve my fitness levels and get leaner/more muscular. Up until reading this book I depended solely on magazines such as Muscle and Fitness for information and guidelines, but finding progress to be quite slow. This book changed everything. From the outset it is easily accessible but very informative, providing effective and revealing advice. As a result I am eating more healthily and effectively as regards to my training needs, and have found my progress to have quickened considerably. Extremely useful is the section on how much of carbs, protein and fat you need to eat for different goals (weight gain, fat loss, or sports-specific needs). It is ESSENTIAL reading to anyone who cares about their health, but especially for those who take their training and/or body composition seriously. Trust me, you'll be glad you bought this book!

Probably the best book I've bought in years.
Detailed, yet easy to digest. Probably the best book I've bought this year. It explains the science of nutrition in absorbable chunks. It's made losing weight understandable and easy to do, even as I tone and build muscle. If you're looking to understand how carbs, protein and fat, really affect your body, and how to maximise your exercise regime, then look no further. This is the book you want on your shelf.

Informative and relateable
Loved the book because the content is easy to understand. There is a lot of jargon but you would expect that. The content covers a lot of sports and advice on different nutrition programmes for different needs, shapes and sizes. It is not a silver bullet and there are no magic secrets revealed. Just practical science based information.

If you want the facts on sports nutrition, they are all here
This is a great book for anyone wanting to know the real facts about sports nutrition rather than the nonsense floating around on social media. I would have given 5 stars but as it has been recently updated (8th ed) , it has some contradictions in the text between chapters. Anyone studying A Level or undergraduate level sport science would benefit from this book.

Best book on sports nutrition that I have read
Bought this as I really like Anita Bean's Runner's Cookbook and Vegetarian Athlete, and am very interested in correct nutrition to support my endurance running. I've previously read a lot of literature/other books on best eating strategies and this is by far the best. A detailed look at the science of energy production and use, and the requirements for different types of activity in a clear, comprehensive but non patronising format. I like being trusted to understand the 'why' not just the 'how'! Thoroughly recommend this book if you are at all interested in this.

Must read for casual sports people to pros
This is an excellent summary of all the latest research, wrapped in straightforward, no nonsense guidance for achieving various sports fitness goals. Real world examples and plans are provided which are both easy to relate to and easy to adapt to your own needs.Personally this highlighted to me that I was underfuelling on the carbs, and a subsequent increase in carbs has provided me with increased performance, endurance and less muscle wasting.Really useful and highly recommended.

Excellent book - and the advice really works
Really love this. From being clueless about sports nutrition, its quickly guided me to getting pretty much where I wanted to be - losing fat and weight, but gaining muscle - and all in a healthy way. My diet is so much healthier now. The chapter detailing which sports supplements likely work and which likely do not is also very valuable. Thanks to the author. I've also enjoyed her weight training book.

Anita Bean
Anita Bean is down to earth and practical, her books are great for training and diet. Her suggestions are easy and do work. I am 60 years old and diabetic and I love mountain biking. I have been struggling with fitness, now a whole new world has opened up, I can't believe how much better I am getting on. I am off to Wales mountain biking now! Interessante ma non semplice da leggere
Ho comprato il libro per avere una visione complessiva della nutrizione e perché sono appassionato di sport..Sebbene sia interessante, è forse un po’ troppo tecnico e non facilissimo da seguire.
