I bought two of these sensors. The 1.75mm and 3mm versions. I think all printers can benefit from a filament run out sensor. My hope was that I could get this sensor functioning with Octoprint so I wouldn't have to splice into my printers circuitry and modify its firmware. However the modules have no pin-out explaining which wires function as ground, vcc, or signal. No indication if its a normally open or normally closed circuit. Or if its a 3.3v or 5v. No instructions or diagrams shipped with my modules other than the info listed on product page.Ultimately I was able to get it functioning with Octoprint in the end. But not before wiring it completely wrong, causing my Octoprint to reboot every time the module triggered being out of filament. With proper documentation I could have avoided the initial problems and frustration getting the module to work properly. This module once wired correctly will work with Octoprint and the filament sensor reloaded plugin. No more almost empty rolls of filament laying about. No more babysitting the printer because it may run out of filament.

I reccomend
Works very well with footprint and a cr-10

Check wiring before connecting to your motherboard!
simple Rocker switch encased in a 3 d printed case that is glued together... If you trying to wire this to a printer other than specified (usaully closed source Lerdge Board) you will be supplying 5vdc to GND shorting your motherboard out. Be sure to take Multimeter to ohm out the wiring and to see where you would be providing power. I had to take apart mine because the rocker switch's pins were bent causing this switch to stay closed.

Item not as pictured.
Just a heads up, what is picture is not what you get it does not have the brass ferrules on the input and output for the filament.
